Xcode crashes when "Build Phases" -> "Copy Files" -> "Copy only when installing" checkbox gets clicked
I've got a very simple command-line Swift project that contains a couple of OpenGL shader source files. They need to be accessed at run-time in order to be compiled and linked. For initial debugging, I hard-coded the absolute path to their location in the Xcode project directory, but I switch back and forth between two machines (MacBook Pro and Mac Studio) for which the project paths are different, so this doesn't work well. To solve this, I thought I could get Xcode to copy the shader sources over with the executable file at build time. I'm aware that technically, command-line apps have no resource bundle, but the "Build Phases" -> "Copy Files" section of the project configuration isn't disabled for my project, so I assumed that it could handle this. I added the two shader source files to the set of files to copy, via the "+" button, and set the Destination to "Products Directory". I left the "Subpath" field blank. AFAICT, nothing happens: the "Products/Debug" sub-directory of "~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/..." has the executable, but neither of the shader sources. In fact, they don't appear anywhere inside ~/Library/Developer/Xcode. Okay, perhaps I need to uncheck "Copy only when installing" in the project config? Sadly, as soon as I click to uncheck it, Xcode crashes, even if that's the very first thing I do immediately after Xcode restarts. FWIW, I'm running Xcode 16.2 on a late 2019 MacBook Pro running Sonoma 14.6.1, but I'm pretty sure I've experienced the problem on my 2024 Mac Studio as well.

Most useless Xcode error message ever
Neither a google search, nor a search of the Apple forums give me a clue as to how to locate or fix the following message I get from Xcode. CLIENT: Failure to determine if this machine is in the process of shutting down, err=1/Operation not permitted This error message came from attempting to build and execute an iOS App which ran just fine the last time I built it. Now, that was actually a little over two years ago. This is an iOS app, which I've run successfully for more than a year on macOS, and that, "My Mac (Designed for iPad)", is what my build target for this run was. Any ideas? Anyone? If this is a "known condition", just why doesn't a friendly internet search or a search of the Apple forums NOT tell me what it means, or what causes the message. Of course, I've upgraded the OS a few times, and updated Xcode as well, but have just not had any time to monkey around with my pet code project. Now that I've gotten some time, and I want to see what's new since March of '23, I finally remember where I stashed my code repository and decided to take it for a spin. Sure, I expect(ed) to see Xcode tell me that the version of Swift has been updated, and maybe some code constructs need to be fixed. But, NO, the code compiles fine. The first build attempt told me that I needed to update my provisioning profiles, and sign-in and agree to the updated developer agreements, which I did. Not so unhelpful was the code window in the debugger: libswiftCore.dylib`swift_willThrow: -> 0x1aeb7b2a0 <+0>: pacibsp 0x1aeb7b2a4 <+4>: str x19, [sp, #-0x20]! 0x1aeb7b2a8 <+8>: stp x29, x30, [sp, #0x10] 0x1aeb7b2ac <+12>: add x29, sp, #0x10 0x1aeb7b2b0 <+16>: adrp x8, 365651 0x1aeb7b2b4 <+20>: add x8, x8, #0x88 ; _swift_willThrow 0x1aeb7b2b8 <+24>: ldapr x8, [x8] 0x1aeb7b2bc <+28>: cbnz x8, 0x1aeb7b2cc ; <+44> 0x1aeb7b2c0 <+32>: ldp x29, x30, [sp, #0x10] 0x1aeb7b2c4 <+36>: ldr x19, [sp], #0x20 0x1aeb7b2c8 <+40>: retab 0x1aeb7b2cc <+44>: mov x0, x21 0x1aeb7b2d0 <+48>: mov x19, x21 0x1aeb7b2d4 <+52>: blraaz x8 0x1aeb7b2d8 <+56>: mov x21, x19 0x1aeb7b2dc <+60>: b 0x1aeb7b2c0 ; <+32> Still not much to go on. I decide to see if it was a macOS vs. iOS issue, so did a clean build folder and tried running on an iPad simulator, "iPad (10th generation)". Now, I have a blank white screen on my simulator and not much to go on in the code window. import SwiftUI @main struct JottoApp: App { Thread1: Breakpoint 1.1 var body: some Scene { WindowGroup { ContentView() } } init() { UITableView.appearance().backgroundColor = UIColor.clear } } Any and all help with this error message will be appreciated.

Build Libraries For Distribution flag usage
I want to build an ios .xcframework (for external delivery) and .framework(for internal debugging) in order to package some code to a customer for incorporation into their app. My framework has a dependency upon RealmSwift, which I've added using SPM. There is a warning saying Module RealmSwift was not compiled with library evolution support. And when building SwiftVerifyEmittedModuleInterface fails with an error saying "missing required modules: 'Realm.Private', 'Realm', 'Realm.Swift'" By default, Build Libraries For Distribution was set to YES, however if I turn it off then the warning and error go away and I can cleanly build the framework. I've been attempting to get a good understanding of this flag and if it should be used or not, most material says yes but doesn't go a good job of explaining why. However anyway I can't get the framework to build with RealmSwift as a dependency without turning off this flag. Therefore is that ok to proceed down that route? Does the fact the xcframework will only ever be distributed to one consumer affect decisions (i.e. binary compatibility etc.) Thanks

XCode suddenly spending minutes running CLangStatCache
I've been using XCode for development in C++ for several years. Suddenly, today it started having the following problem: Any time I try to compile my code, (even if I just finished successfully compiling it), it spends several minutes running CLangStatCache. This is according to the result of "Perform Action... Build with Timing Summary". Furthermore, if I first delete the ".../DerivedData/SDKStatCaches.noindex" folder, the problem goes away and it compiles immediately. However, it creates a new folder with a 32 Mb file in it, and then has the same problem the next time unless I delete that folder again. I do not want to have to delete this file every time I compile my code. Is there some way to turn this off? What happened that is different today from any other day in the last several years? I did just download and install the latest System software update, including XCode... Did that break something?

Xcode and Supabase Package
Hi All, I'll start by saying i am complete beginner when it comes to coding/ developing. So please be easy on me, im also using AI tools to help and learn so apologies if what im saying doesnt make sense. The error im getting is /Services/SupabaseManager.swift:47:29 Cannot find 'GlobalOptions' in scope From AI tells me 'GlobalOptions' is defined a types.swift file in the supabase package public struct GlobalOptions: Sendable { /// Optional headers for initializing the client, it will be passed down to all sub-clients. public let headers: [String: String] /// A session to use for making requests, defaults to `URLSession.shared`. public let session: URLSession /// The logger to use across all Supabase sub-packages. public let logger: (any SupabaseLogger)? public init( headers: [String: String] = [:], session: URLSession = .shared, logger: (any SupabaseLogger)? = nil ) { self.headers = headers self.session = session self.logger = logger } } From what i can see i have added the supabase package successfully, following this guide - https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode/adding-package-dependencies-to-your-app Here are some screenshots of my xcode to show the added package.

Xcode 16.3 Compile fails
After updating to 16.3, my project now fails to compile with the diagnostic: "Command SwiftCompile failed with a nonzero exit code". This is a SwiftUI document project with two local packages, the second of which is a rather large one with 112 SwiftUI files. It is this second package that is failing. There are no issues when compiling with 16.2. Without diagnostics I'm having a bit of difficulty in determining the cause. My thought is to regress the commits unit 16.3 gives a success, or shows issues. Although I'm not catching a similar issue in the forums, I'm seeing other problems with 16.3. Has anyone else had such build failure isolated to 16.3? Any advice on other ways to approach this problem? Thanks in advance

Microphone is not being detected in Safari on iOS
What I am trying to do is very simple. Environment description: macOS Catalina version 10.15.7 iOS Simulator version 12.3 Target device iPhone 11 (iOS 13.2.2) Open Safari > go to website > mictests.com Result: "Could not find any media devices. It is very likely that your browser does not allow access to these devices." The Simulator does have access to the microphone. I can use Siri just fine. Only Safari cannot access the mic. I'm really stuck here, any ideas are welcome.

How to run XCode 15.2 on Sequoia?
Hi, I have a project that is based on a GPL library. The GPL library has some issue since early 2024 that requires it to be run on XCode 15.2. Any XCode above 15.2 will only give you "Invalid MinimumOSVersion." and "Missing Info.plist value." errors. So I installed 15.2 again. But now I have another problem because it can only run on Ventura. How do I run XCode 15.2 on my Sequoia MacOS? I hate to reinstall the OS all again. Thank you.

WatchOS Xcode 16.4 to sample live RR intervals from the PPG sensor ERROR
Hi, I am getting an error stating "Argument passed to call that takes no arguments". I want this Apple Watch App to measure and store RR Intervals from the PPG sensor on the Apple Watch for Heart Rate Variability calculations. Please help me fix this, I can't figure it out. Here is my code: heartbeatQuery = HKHeartbeatSeriesQuery(predicate: predicate, dataReceivedHandler: { (query, timeSinceLastBeat, ended, error) in // Switch to main thread for UI updates DispatchQueue.main.async { if let error = error { print("Heartbeat query error: (error.localizedDescription)") self.fetchErrorMessage = "Heartbeat query error: (error.localizedDescription)" // Consider stopping the workout session if the query fails critically // self.stopWorkoutSession() return } if ended { print("Heartbeat query indicates series ended.") } // Append valid RR intervals if timeSinceLastBeat > 0 { self.rrIntervals.append(timeSinceLastBeat) self.beatCount += 1 } } // End DispatchQueue.main.async }) // End query data handler // --- END OF PROBLEMATIC INITIALIZER --- // Execute the query if it was created successfully It recommends the fix as removing this part: '(predicate: predicate, dataReceivedHandler: { (query, timeSinceLastBeat, ended, error) in // Switch to main thread for UI updates DispatchQueue.main.async { if let error = error { print("Heartbeat query error: (error.localizedDescription)") self.fetchErrorMessage = "Heartbeat query error: (error.localizedDescription)" // Consider stopping the workout session if the query fails critically // self.stopWorkoutSession() return } if ended { print("Heartbeat query indicates series ended.") } // Append valid RR intervals if timeSinceLastBeat > 0 { self.rrIntervals.append(timeSinceLastBeat) self.beatCount += 1 } } // End DispatchQueue.main.async })' But after I remove that it says "Cannot assign value of type 'HKHeartbeatSeriesQuery.Type' to type 'HKHeartbeatSeriesQuery'" PLEASE HELP ME Thanks

Issue using RealmSwift in a framework versus using it in an app
If I install RealmSwift into an ios app using SPM, I have no problems. However if I install it into an ios framework, then when building there is this error: error: missing required modules: 'Realm.Private', 'Realm', 'Realm.Swift' I have discovered that if I change the import statement from: import RealmSwift to private import RealmSwift then doing that makes this build error goes away (but doing that isn't a feasible workaround as I would like to publicly export classes stored in Realm from the framework). There's no point in posting issues with Realm on their support board as its being deprecated and its tumble weeds on their forum. But I would be very interested in hearing from the Apple expects explanation or speculation on: why is importing the same framework via SPM into a framework xcode project resulting in different behavior then when importing it into an app? why would changing import to private import make the build error go away? TIA

Custom font not support in Xcode 16.3
I'm experiencing an issue with a custom font not loading properly in Xcode 16.3. The font files are included in the bundle, listed in Info.plist, and verified for correct names using UIFont.familyNames, but they still don't appear at runtime. Has anyone else run into this with Xcode 16.3? Could this be related to recent changes in asset packaging or font catalogs?

OS Ventura can't open XIP files
I want to install the latest Xcode development software on my Mac, but the xip files won't open. I keep getting the following message: There was a problem while reading the contents of "Xcode_15 xip": Data is corrupted I have tried several unarchiver packages, and keep getting this message. I have also downloaded several other Xcode versions with the same result. Any idea what is going on here and/or how to fix it?

Posting a Crash Report
If you need help investigating a crash, please include a crash report in your post. To smooth things along, follow these guidelines: For information on how to get a crash report, see Acquiring crash reports and diagnostic logs. Include the whole crash report as a text attachment (click the paperclip icon and then choose Add File). This avoids clogging up the timeline while also preserving the wealth of information in the crash report. If you’re not able to post your crash report as an attachment, see Can’t Post Crash Report as Attachment below. If you want to highlight a section of the report, include it in the main body of your post. Put the snippet in a code block so that it renders nicely. To create a code block, add a delimiter line containing triple backquotes before and after the block, or just click the Code Block button. If possible, post an Apple crash report. Third-party crash reporters are often missing critical information and have general reliability problems (for an explanation as to why, see Implementing Your Own Crash Reporter). Symbolicate your crash report before posting it. For information on how to do this, see Adding identifiable symbol names to a crash report. If you need to redact the crash report, do so consistently. Imagine you’re building the WaffleVarnish app whose bundle ID is com.example.wafflevarnish but you want to keep your new waffle varnishing technology secret. Replace WaffleVarnish with WwwwwwVvvvvvv and com.example.wafflevarnish with com.eeeeeee.wwwwwwvvvvvvv. This keeps the text in the crash report aligned while making it possible to distinguish the human-readible name of the app (WaffleVarnish) from the bundle ID (com.example.wafflevarnish). Finally, for information on how to use a crash report to debug your own problems, see Diagnosing issues using crash reports and device logs. Can’t Post Crash Report as Attachment Crash reports have two common extensions: .crash and .ips. If you have an .ips file, please post that [1]. DevForums lets you attach a .crash file but not an .ips file (r. 117468172). To work around this, change the extension to .txt. If DevForums complains that your crash report “contains sensitive language”, leave it out of your initial post and attach it to a reply. That often avoids this roadblock. If you still can’t post your crash report, upload it to a file sharing service and include the URL in your post. Post the URL in the clear, per tip 14 in Quinn’s Top Ten DevForums Tips. Getting a Crash Report from the Xcode Organiser The Xcode organiser shows crash reports from customers. If you’re investigating such a crash and want to post a crash report: Navigate to the crash in the Xcode organiser. Note If you can’t see the right crash, check the filter popups at the top. In the list of crashes, secondary click on your crash and choose Show in Finder. That reveals the Xcode crashpoint document (.xccrashpoint) in the Finder. Secondary click on that and choose Show Package Contents. In the resulting Finder window, find a crash report (.crash) that accurately represents the crash you’re investigating and attach that to your forums post. Share and Enjoy — Quinn “The Eskimo!” @ Developer Technical Support @ Apple let myEmail = "eskimo" + "1" + "@" + "apple.com" [1] Because it’s easy to go from an .ips file to a .crash file. I usually do this by choosing File > Quick Look in the Finder. For more info about these file formats, see this post. Revision History: 2025-08-29 Added the Getting a Crash Report from the Xcode Organiser section. 2024-11-21 Added a recommendation to post the .ips format if possible. 2024-05-21 Added some advice regarding the “contains sensitive language” message. 2023-10-25 Added the Can’t Post Crash Report as Attachment section. Made other minor editorial changes. 2021-08-26 First posted.

CLLocationManagerDelegate not working on Siri Intents
I need to elicit the location of the user in the Siri intents and so I call: override init(){ super.init() self.locationManager=CLLocationManager() self.locationManager.delegate = self; self.locationManager.startUpdatingLocation() self.locationManager.requestWhenInUseAuthorization() } Still neither public func locationManagerDidChangeAuthorization(_ manager: CLLocationManager) nor public func locationManager(_ manager: CLLocationManager, didUpdateLocations locations: [CLLocation]) are ever called, notwithstanding the presence of the correct entry in the info.plist, the inclusion of the library and the indication of the delegation with: class IntentHandler: INExtension, INSendMessageIntentHandling, CLLocationManagerDelegate, UISceneDelegate are ever called. Is there any problem with CLLocation manager on intents? What would be a big problem as there is no way to share information with the main app!

Using `com.apple.developer.usernotifications.filtering` for developement
Ref: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/bundleresources/entitlements/com.apple.developer.usernotifications.filtering?language=objc Currently, it seems impossible to enable this entitlement for local development and testing without first going through Apple’s approval process. I would like to be able to test how it works on a side project without having to submit the form which seems designed for real app. There is any trick I can use?
