Unexpected onAppear behavior in NavigationStack with ViewThatFits
Hello, My goal is to have a NavigationStack whose root view is determined based on its height and width. To do so, I'm using ViewThatFits, which should choose the right view to display. It is working fine, but unexpectedly both views trigger onAppear, whereas only the appropriate one should. This causes the logic in both closures to be executed, which is not intended. The code below demonstrates the problem: struct NavigationStackContentView: View { var body: some View { NavigationStack { ViewThatFits(in: .vertical) { Color.yellow .onAppear { print("|-> on appear: yellow") } .onDisappear { print("|-> on disappear: yellow") } Color.red .frame(width: 1500, height: 1500) .onAppear { print("|-> on appear: red") } .onDisappear { print("|-> on disappear: red") } } } } } this produces: |-> on appear: red |-> on disappear: red |-> on appear: yellow When ViewThatFits is not nested within NavigationStack, the problem does not occur — only the yellow view (in this sample) triggers onAppear, which is the expected behavior. I also checked the macOS version, and the problem does not occur at all, whether within NavigationStack or not. This example is simple and demonstrates that the larger view is the second one. When I switch their places, the problem does not occur because it recognizes that the first view would not fit at this point. However, in my case I will have these views without knowing which one will not fit, so switching their order is not a viable solution if this works without NavigationStack. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug? // iOS: 18.3.1 Xcode: 16.2

detecting modifier keys using UITextFieldDelegate protocol
I have a UITextField in my application, and I want to detect all the keys uniquely to perform all relevant task. However, there is some problem in cleanly identifying some of the keys. I m not able to identify the backspace key press in the textField(_:shouldChangeCharactersIn:replacementString:) method. Also I don't know how to detect the Caps Lock key. I am intending to so this because I want to perform some custom handling for some keys. Can someone help me with what is the way of detecting it under the recommendation from apple. Thanks in advance. Note: checking for replacementString parameter in shouldChangeCharactersIn method for empty does not help for backspace detection as it overlaps with other cases.

Mixing NavigationLink types (value: and non-value: types)
Hello, I was wondering if someone could clear-up my thinking here. e.g. consider the code below... It has a rootView with a navlink to a childView which in turn has navlinks to GrandchildViews. The root view uses basic navLInks NavigationLink{View} label: {View} The child view uses type-based navLinks navigationLink(value:) {View} and .navigationDestination(for:) {View} I would expect the basic navlinks to work in the root view and the type-based ones to work in the child view. However it appears that both are active when one taps on a link in the child view. e.g. User actions: Start -> RootView is only view on the stack -> (tap on ‘Child View’) -> ChildView is top of the stack -> tap on ‘Alice’ -> a second ChildView is top of the stack with a GrandchildView underneath…. Why does this happen, why are the basic links also applied to the childView's links? Thanks. struct Thing: Identifiable, Hashable { let id = UUID() let name: String } struct RootView: View { var body: some View { NavigationStack { List { NavigationLink { ChildView() } label: { Label("Child View", systemImage: "figure.and.child.holdinghands") } NavigationLink { Text("Hello") } label: { Label("Another navLink item in the list", systemImage: "circle") } } .padding() } } } struct ChildView: View { private var things = [ Thing(name: "Alice"), Thing(name: "Bob"), Thing(name: "Charlie"), ] var body: some View { Text("This is the child view") List { ForEach(things) { thing in NavigationLink(value: thing) { Text(thing.name) } } } .navigationTitle("Child View") .navigationDestination(for: Thing.self) { thing in GrandchildView(thing: thing) } } } struct GrandchildView: View { let thing: Thing var body: some View { Text("This is the GrandchildView: \(thing.name)") } }

Failing UI Test for new floating Tabbar iOS 18+
Xcode 16.1 iOS 18.1 iPad Air 13-inch (M2) I have created a completely new Xcode project with Swift and Storyboard. In Storyboard, I only have a tabBarController with two attached UIViewControllers. The code from the base project hasn't been changed at all. I created a UITest with a very simple premise. let app = XCUIApplication() override func setupWithError() throws { continueAfterFailure = false app.launch() } func testTabBarExistence() { let tabBar = app.tabBars.element(boundBy: 0) XCTAssertTrue(tabBar.waitForExistence(timeout: 5), "Tab bar should exist") } But this test always fails for iPad on iOS 18+, but it will succeed for anything lower (e.g. 17.5)

Replacing top view in navigation stack
Hello. I use NavigationStack for navigating in app. I have 4 screens - A, B, C, D. In some moment I have path [A, B, C] for NavigationStack. After user did action I should show path [A, B, D]. In other hands I should replace screen C with screen D. struct HomeView: View { @ObservedObject var viewModel: HomeViewModel var body: some View { NavigationStack(path: $viewModel.path) { ContentView() .navigationDestination(for: HomeViewModel.Path.self) { destination in // B, C, D views here... } } .navigationViewStyle(StackNavigationViewStyle()) } } Solution looks like same as for UIKit. I replaced last item in stack. It works, but "push" animation broke. var updatedPath = self.path updatedPath.removeLast() updatedPath.append(newPathItem) self.path = updatedPath I found suggest in Internet that you can remove view from stack after some delay. But it has some magic. For example 1 second delay works properly on iOS 18, but cause crash on iOS 16. 1 millisecond delay works on iOS 16, but sometimes didn't. self.path.append(newPathItem) DispatchQueue.main.asyncAfter(deadline: .now() + .milliseconds(1000)) { UIView.setAnimationsEnabled(false) self.path.remove(at: self.path.count - 2) DispatchQueue.main.asyncAfter(deadline: .now() + .milliseconds(1)) { UIView.setAnimationsEnabled(true) } } It is easy task to replace current top screen in UINavigationController of UIKit. How I can do it properly in SwiftUI and save animation?

Saturation/Contrast/Brightness formula
In SwiftUI we have these nice properties that we can use for an Image: .saturation, .contrast, .brightness. In my case I have a backend where I would want to apply the same exact effects using OpenCV. Can I find the mathematical formulas anywhere? Any idea how can I achieve this? Thank you!

Widget_Simulator error 4
I am on MacOS 15.3.2, XCode 16.2 I have a MacOS app with app group and Widget that was working on Sonoma. I am aware of the App Group changes with Sequoia, and I think I have that right. The app runs fine. The widget refuses to load in the simulator and in the system. The simulator error I get is Failed to load widget. The operation couldn't be completed. (WidgetKit_Simulator.WidgetDocument.Error error 4). I am having trouble finding out what exactly error 4 means. Can anyone help?

Hide characters with TextKit 2
With TextKit 1, I was able to “tag” characters with attribute string keys that flagged them to be invisible, then I would use NSLayoutManager’s layoutManager(_:shouldGenerateGlyphs:properties:characterIndexes:font:forGlyphRange:) to strip these characters out, preventing change to the underlying storage. In TextKit 2, I don’t see an opportunity to do this. The best point I think to intercept would be NSTextLayoutFragment, but without being able to see what’s happening, I don’t know if it’s possible to alter the content used to generate the line fragments. My end goal is to be able to hide characters for a Markdown editor, so maybe I’m thinking about this wrong? Any advice would be welcome.

Disable collapsing Sidebar/NavigationSplitView
I want to keep the sidebar fixed in NavigationSplitView. I don’t want the user to be able to open or close the sidebar. I removed the toggle button, but I still couldn’t make the sidebar stay fixed. It can still be closed using Cmd + Alt + S or by dragging. What I want is just to disable the resize feature of the sidebar. Isn’t it possible with SwiftUI? NavigationSplitView is kind of blackhole :) LeftSidebarView() .environmentObject(detailView) .toolbar(removing: .sidebarToggle) .navigationSplitViewColumnWidth(240)

SwiftUI refresh while alert is visible
Does causing a swiftui view refresh via modifying observed properties while an alert is visible allowed? Make sure <SwiftUI.PlatformAlertController> is in the view hierarchy before presenting from it. The second warning occurs more often.

Seeking KeyboardLayout ID for All Native Keyboards in iOS and macOS
Hello everyone, I am currently working on a project that requires me to programmatically manage keyboard layouts on both iOS and macOS devices. I'm looking for a comprehensive list of KeyboardLayout ID values for all the native keyboard layouts available in both iOS and macOS. While I can extract some of this information from the /System/Library/Keyboard Layouts/ directory on macOS, I cannot extract all without adding every keyboard layout active, having a complete and pre-compiled list would be immensely helpful. Does anyone here have such a list or know where I might find one? Any guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance! JJ

New crashes with NSOutlineView in MacOS Sequoia
Hi, I have noticed a major uptick in crash reports, ever since I updated my app for macOS Sequoia. All of them have to do with NSOutlineView, and they all have a similar internal API in the crash log, which shows that the issue is something to do with the framework. They all have references to NSConcreteMapTable and _TtCs12_SwiftObject isEqual. The issue isn't reproducible, but it's reported by many different users, all on macOS15+, and it was never an issue with macOS14 or below, so I'm not sure what to do about it. Please let me know if this is a known issue, and/or if there's any ideas out there on how I can do to avoid this. It's causing a lot of instability in my app, that wasn't there before macOS15, so something changed in the internal APIs, and hopefully there's a way to work around it.
