Loading secondary Icon
I want to add the option to choose an alternative icon inside the app. Is there a way to load an icon asset from within the app? I downloaded Apple’s alternative icon sample, which is supposed to show a list of icons to choose from, but even in the sample, it did not work. So the current solution is to add every alternative icon along with another image asset of the same image to display to the user. This sounds like a waste of bytes. Thank you in advance for any help.

Display a broader track of a user on ios app with Mapkit.
Hello I'm currently building a feature within an ios app using SwiftUI and Mapkit to record the gps cordinates of a user as they move and render the track on the map. the idea is not really to have a "track" but to have a visual representation of the area the user sees while they are moving around. I need this width/breadth to be relative to the map and not the screen, such that when I zoom in and out of the map, the size will adjust automatically.

Remove persistent bottom gray bar at the bottom when using hardware keyboard
DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM When using SwiftUI’s TextField or TextEditor on iPadOS, a persistent gray or default system material bar appears at the bottom of the screen. This gray bar is not present in Apple’s native apps (such as Notes, Mail, Messages) or in third-party apps like ChatGPT and Beeper STEPS TO REPRODUCE Create a TextField or TextEditor. Run the code, click on it, without software keyboard enabled.

SwiftUI views lock up after background and sleep for “Designed for iPad” apps
There's an easily reproducible SwiftUI bug on macOS where an app's UI state no longer updates/re-renders for "Designed for iPad" apps (i.e. ProcessInfo.processInfo.isiOSAppOnMac == true). The bug occurs in Xcode and also if the app is running independent of Xcode. The bug occurs when: the user Hides the app (i.e. it goes into the background) the user puts the Mac to sleep (e.g. Apple menu > Sleep) a total of ~60 seconds transpires (i.e. macOS puts the app into the "suspended state") when the app is brought back into the foreground the UI no longer updates properly The only way I have found to fix this is to manually open a new actual full app window via File > New, in which case the app works fine again in the new window. The following extremely simple code in a default Xcode project illustrates the issue: import SwiftUI @main struct staleApp: App { @State private var isBright = true var body: some Scene { WindowGroup() { ZStack { (isBright ? Color.white : Color.black).ignoresSafeArea() Button("TOGGLE") { isBright.toggle(); print("TAPPED") } } .onAppear { print("\(isBright ? "light" : "dark") view appeared") } } } } For the code above, after Hiding the app and putting the computer to sleep for 60 seconds or more, the button no longer swaps views, although the print statements still appear in the console upon tapping the button. Also, while in this buggy state, i can get the view to update to the current state (i.e. the view triggered by the last tap) by manually dragging the corner of the app window to resize the window. But after resizing, the view again does not update upon button tapping until I resize the window again. so it appears the diff engine is mucked or that the Scene or WindowGroup are no longer correctly running on the main thread I have tried rebuilding the entire view hierarchy by updating .id() on views but this approach does NOT work. I have tried many other options/hacks but have not been able to reset the 'view engine' other than opening a new window manually or by using: @Environment(.openWindow) private var openWindow openWindow could be a viable solution except there's no way to programmatically close the old window for isiOSAppOnMac (@Environment(.dismissWindow) private var dismissWindow doesn't work for iOS)

Get NSTextView selection frame with NSTextLayoutManager
I'm trying to update my app to use TextKit 2. The one thing that I'm still not sure about is how I can get the selection frame. My app uses it to auto-scroll the text to keep the cursor at the same height when the text wraps onto a new line or a newline is manually inserted. Currently I'm using NSLayoutManager.layoutManager!.boundingRect(forGlyphRange:in:). The code below almost works. When editing the text or changing the selection, the current selection frame is printed out. My expectation is that the selection frame after a text or selection change should be equal to the selection frame before the next text change. I've noticed that this is not always true when the text has a NSParagraphStyle with spacing > 0. As long as I type at the end of the text, everything's fine, but if I insert some lines, then move the selection somewhere into the middle of the text and insert another newline, the frame printed after manually moving the selection is different than the frame before the newline is inserted. It seems that the offset between the two frames is exactly the same as the paragraph style's spacing. Instead when moving the selection with the arrow key the printed frames are correct. I've filed FB17104954. class ViewController: NSViewController, NSTextViewDelegate { private var textView: NSTextView! override func loadView() { let scrollView = NSScrollView(frame: CGRect(x: 0, y: 0, width: 400, height: 400)) textView = NSTextView(frame: scrollView.frame) textView.autoresizingMask = [.width, .height] textView.delegate = self let paragraphStyle = NSMutableParagraphStyle() paragraphStyle.lineSpacing = 40 textView.typingAttributes = [.foregroundColor: NSColor.labelColor, .paragraphStyle: paragraphStyle] scrollView.documentView = textView scrollView.hasVerticalScroller = true view = scrollView } func textView(_ textView: NSTextView, shouldChangeTextIn affectedCharRange: NSRange, replacementString: String?) -> Bool { print("before", selectionFrame.maxY, selectionFrame) return true } func textDidChange(_ notification: Notification) { print("after ", selectionFrame.maxY, selectionFrame) } func textViewDidChangeSelection(_ notification: Notification) { print("select", selectionFrame.maxY, selectionFrame) } var selectionFrame: CGRect { guard let selection = textView.textLayoutManager!.textSelections.first?.textRanges.first else { return .null } var frame = CGRect.null textView.textLayoutManager!.ensureLayout(for: selection) textView.textLayoutManager!.enumerateTextSegments(in: selection, type: .selection, options: [.rangeNotRequired]) { _, rect, _, _ in frame = rect return false } return frame } }

cannot save event
iOS 18.4.1 When I change a Google type event to an iCloud type, a "Cannot Save Event" prompt box pops up. We have also received user feedback that recurring events also fail to save. After updating to iOS 18.4 when trying to save changes to an existing repeating event, the message "Cannot Save Event" will appear. EventKitUI

[SwiftUI] Gesture Conflict: simultaneousGesture Causes Incorrect Gesture Recognition in iOS 18
Subject: SwiftUI Gesture Conflict in iOS 18: Simultaneous Recognition of Drag and Tap Gestures Description: In SwiftUI on iOS 18 and above, we've identified an issue with gesture handling that affects user experience. When implementing .simultaneousGesture(DragGesture()), the system incorrectly recognizes and processes both drag and tap gestures concurrently, resulting in unintended behavior. Technical Details: Environment: SwiftUI, iOS 18+ Issue: Simultaneous recognition of horizontal drag gestures and vertical scroll/tap gestures Current Behavior: Both vertical and horizontal scrolling occur simultaneously when using .simultaneousGesture(DragGesture()) Expected Behavior: Gestures should be properly disambiguated to prevent concurrent scrolling in multiple directions Impact: This behavior significantly impacts user experience, particularly in custom carousel implementations and other UI components that rely on precise gesture handling. The simultaneous recognition of both gestures creates a confusing and unpredictable interaction pattern. Steps to Reproduce: Create a SwiftUI view with horizontal scrolling (e.g., custom carousel) Implement .simultaneousGesture(DragGesture()) Add tap gesture recognition to child views Run on iOS 18 Attempt to scroll horizontally Observed Result: Both horizontal dragging and vertical scrolling/tapping are recognized and processed simultaneously, creating an inconsistent user experience. Expected Result: The system should properly disambiguate between horizontal drag gestures and vertical scroll/tap gestures, allowing only one type of gesture to be recognized at a time based on the user's intent. Please let me know if you need any additional information or reproduction steps.

SwiftUI: .searchable displays incorrectly in child views under NavigationStack
There appears to be a visual bug when using .searchable in a child view that’s pushed via NavigationLink inside a NavigationStack. Specifically, the search bar appears briefly in the wrong position (or animates in an unexpected way) during the transition to the child view. This issue does not occur when using NavigationView instead of NavigationStack. Steps to Reproduce: Create a TabView with a single tab containing a NavigationStack. Push from a ContentView to a DetailsView using NavigationLink. Add a .searchable modifier to both the ContentView and DetailsView. Run the app and tap a row to navigate to the details view. Expected Behavior The search bar in the DetailsView should appear smoothly and in the correct position as the view transitions in, just like it does under NavigationView. Actual Behavior When the DetailsView appears, the search bar briefly animates or appears in the wrong location before settling into place. This results in a jarring or buggy visual experience. Feedback: FB17031212 Here is a reddit thread discussing the issue as well https://www.reddit.com/r/SwiftUI/comments/137epji/navigation_stack_with_search_bar_has_a_bug_and_a/ I hope that an Apple engineer can get this fixed soon. It's frustrating to have new APIs come out with the old deprecated yet there are still obvious bugs two years later. import SwiftUI public enum Tab { case main } struct AppTabNavigation: View { @State private var tabSelection = Tab.main var body: some View { TabView(selection: $tabSelection) { NavigationStack { ContentView() } .tag(Tab.main) .tabItem { Label("Main", systemImage: "star") } } } } struct ContentView: View { @State private var searchText = "" var body: some View { List(0..<100) { i in NavigationLink("Select \(i)", value: i) } .navigationTitle("Main") .searchable(text: $searchText) .navigationDestination(for: Int.self) { i in DetailsView(i: i) } } } struct DetailsView: View { @State private var searchText = "" let i: Int // MARK: - Body var body: some View { List { ForEach(0..<10, id: \.self) { i in Text("Hello \(i)") } } .navigationTitle(i.formatted()) .searchable(text: $searchText) } }

iOS 17 Bug? Adding a .sheet to a .fullscreencover makes background opaque
I am working on creating a custom Popup View based on a .fullscreenCover. The .fullscreenCover is used to place the Popup content on screen on a semi-transparent background. While this works on iOS 18, there is a problem on iOS 17: When the Popup content contains a .sheet, the background is not transparent any more but opaque. Image: iOS 17. When showing the Popup an opaque background covers the main content. When tapping on the background it turns transparent. Image: iOS 18. Everything works as intended. When showing the Popup the main background is covered with a semi-transparent background. Removing the .sheet(...) from the Popup content solves the problem. It does not matter if the sheet is used or not. Adding it to the view code is enough to trigger the problem. Using a .sheet within a .fullscreenCover should not be a problem as far as I know. Is this a bug in iOS 17 or is there something wrong with my code? Code: struct SwiftUIView: View { @State var isPresented: Bool = false @State var sheetPresented: Bool = false var body: some View { ZStack { VStack { Color.red.frame(maxHeight: .infinity) Color.green.frame(maxHeight: .infinity) Color.yellow.frame(maxHeight: .infinity) Color.blue.frame(maxHeight: .infinity) } Button("Show") { isPresented = true } .padding() .background(.white) Popup(isPresented: $isPresented) { VStack { Button("Dismiss") { isPresented = false } } .frame(maxWidth: 300) .padding() .background( RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 20) .fill(.white) ) .sheet(isPresented: $sheetPresented) { Text("Hallo") } } } } } struct Popup<Content: View>: View { @Binding var isPresented: Bool let content: () -> Content init(isPresented: Binding<Bool>, @ViewBuilder _ content: @escaping () -> Content) { _isPresented = isPresented self.content = content } @State private var internalIsPresented: Bool = false @State private var isShowing: Bool = false let transitionDuration: TimeInterval = 0.5 var body: some View { ZStack { } .fullScreenCover(isPresented: $internalIsPresented) { VStack { content() } .frame(maxWidth: .infinity, maxHeight: .infinity) .background( Color.black.opacity(0.5) .opacity(isShowing ? 1 : 0) .animation(.easeOut(duration: transitionDuration), value: isShowing) .ignoresSafeArea() ) .presentationBackground(.clear) .onAppear { isShowing = true } .onDisappear { isShowing = false } } .onChange(of: isPresented) { _ in withoutAnimation { internalIsPresented = isPresented } } } } extension View { func withoutAnimation(action: @escaping () -> Void) { var transaction = Transaction() transaction.disablesAnimations = true withTransaction(transaction) { action() } } }

SwiftUI: How to change `contentInset` of `List`
Hi, Is there any way of changing the contentInset (UIKit variant) of a List in SwiftUI? I do not see any APIs for doing so, the closest I gotten is to use safeAreaInset . While visually that works the UX is broken as you can no longer "scroll" from the gap made by the .safeAreaInset(edge:alignment:spacing:content:) I have subbmited a feedback suggestion: FB16866956

Live Activity animate without updating data
Is it actually possible to display animation (even a simple one) on Live Activity? But on these cases: The main app is terminated - of course, I know I can use the main app to keep updating the Live Activity to make simple animations work, but in this case, the main app is killed. Live Activity data is not updating - I also understand that the Live Activity can perform animations when its data is being update via push notification or other means, but the current case is the data is not being updated. I’ve tried several ways to achieve this, but nothing seems to work. Just when I was about to give up, I found this video from Apple’s official channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6WMwSj_EbA At 4:14 in this video, you can see the text "Locating Driver" with the breathing animation. Could someone please help me understand how to implement that kind of animation in a Live Activity when: The main app is not running, and The Live Activity data is not updating?

Why is the pitch slider visible in SwiftUI tvOS map view?
Why is the pitch slider always visible in the SwiftUI tvOS map view? It doesn't even appear to be supported there, let alone the fact that I specify mapControlVisibility(.hidden). Am I missing something or is Apple? See attached screenshot. This really messes up my UI. Here is my code: import SwiftUI import MapKit struct ContentView: View { @State var position = MapCameraPosition.region(MKCoordinateRegion( center: CLLocationCoordinate2D(latitude: 37.7749, longitude: -122.4194), span: MKCoordinateSpan(latitudeDelta: 0.05, longitudeDelta: 0.05))) var body: some View { Map(position: $position) .mapControlVisibility(.hidden) .mapStyle(.standard(pointsOfInterest: .including(.airport))) } }

Focused Views Get Clipped When Using NavigationStack or Form in Split-Screen Layout on tvOS
When attempting to replicate the tvOS Settings menu layout, where the screen is divided horizontally into two sections, placing a NavigationStack or a Form view on either side of the screen causes focusable views (such as Button, TextField, Toggle, etc.) to be visually clipped when they receive focus and apply the default scaling animation. Specifically: If the Form or NavigationStack is placed on the right side, the left edge of the focused view gets clipped. If placed on the left side, the right edge of the focused view gets clipped. This issue affects any focusable child view inside the Form or NavigationStack when focus scaling is triggered. Example code: struct TVAppMenuMainView: View { var body: some View { VStack { Text("Settings Menu") .font(.title) HStack { VStack { Text("Left Pane") } .frame(width: UIScreen.main.bounds.width * 0.4) // represents only 40% of the screen .frame(maxHeight: .infinity) .padding(.bottom) Divider() NavigationStack { Form { // All the buttons will get cut on the left side when each button is focused Button("First Button"){} Button("Second Button"){} Button("Third Button"){} Button("Forth Button"){} } } } .frame(maxHeight: .infinity) .frame(maxWidth: .infinity) } .background(.ultraThickMaterial) } } How it looks: What I have tried: .clipped modifiers .ignoresSafeArea Modifying the size manually Using just a ScrollView with VStack works as intended, but as soon as NavigationStack or Form are added, the buttons get clipped. This was tested on the latest 18.5 tvOS BETA

Mixing NavigationLink types (value: and non-value: types)
Hello, I was wondering if someone could clear-up my thinking here. e.g. consider the code below... It has a rootView with a navlink to a childView which in turn has navlinks to GrandchildViews. The root view uses basic navLInks NavigationLink{View} label: {View} The child view uses type-based navLinks navigationLink(value:) {View} and .navigationDestination(for:) {View} I would expect the basic navlinks to work in the root view and the type-based ones to work in the child view. However it appears that both are active when one taps on a link in the child view. e.g. User actions: Start -> RootView is only view on the stack -> (tap on ‘Child View’) -> ChildView is top of the stack -> tap on ‘Alice’ -> a second ChildView is top of the stack with a GrandchildView underneath…. Why does this happen, why are the basic links also applied to the childView's links? Thanks. struct Thing: Identifiable, Hashable { let id = UUID() let name: String } struct RootView: View { var body: some View { NavigationStack { List { NavigationLink { ChildView() } label: { Label("Child View", systemImage: "figure.and.child.holdinghands") } NavigationLink { Text("Hello") } label: { Label("Another navLink item in the list", systemImage: "circle") } } .padding() } } } struct ChildView: View { private var things = [ Thing(name: "Alice"), Thing(name: "Bob"), Thing(name: "Charlie"), ] var body: some View { Text("This is the child view") List { ForEach(things) { thing in NavigationLink(value: thing) { Text(thing.name) } } } .navigationTitle("Child View") .navigationDestination(for: Thing.self) { thing in GrandchildView(thing: thing) } } } struct GrandchildView: View { let thing: Thing var body: some View { Text("This is the GrandchildView: \(thing.name)") } }

Save fails after Save As
I have an app with two file types with the following extensions: gop (an exported type), sgf (an imported type). The Save command fails after the following sequence of events: I open a gop file, say the file "A.gop". I save this file as an sgf file, say "A.sgf". This Save As works perfectly and the document name in the document’s title bar has changed to "A.sgf". I change something in the document and then try to Save this change. This should just resave the document to "A.sgf", but "A.sgf" remains untouched. Instead I get a system alert with the message The document “A.sgf” could not be saved. A file with the name “A.gop” already exists. To save the file, either provide a different name, or move aside or delete the existing file, and try again. In the Xcode console I get the following diagnostic: NSFileSandboxingRequestRelatedItemExtension: an error was received from pboxd instead of a token. Domain: NSPOSIXErrorDomain, code: 2 [NSFileCoordinator itemAtURL:willMoveToURL:] could not get a sandbox extension. oldURL: file:///Users/francois/Desktop/A.sgf, newURL: file:///Users/francois/Desktop/A.gop The problem seems to relate to the sandbox. But I am at a loss to find a solution. (After closing the alert, I check that A.sgf did not register the change.) If I open an sgf file, say "B.sgf", save it as "B.gop", make a change in the document and then try to save this change (into "B.gop"), I hit the same problem, with "gop" and "sgf" interchanged. If, instead of saving "A.gop" as "A.sgf", I save it as "B.sgf", make a change in the document and then try to save this change into "B.sgf", I get the following system alert: The document “B.sgf” could not be saved. You don’t have permission. To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info. And in the Xcode console I get the following diagnostic: NSFileSandboxingRequestRelatedItemExtension: an error was received from pboxd instead of a token. Domain: NSPOSIXErrorDomain, code: 2 [NSFileCoordinator itemAtURL:willMoveToURL:] could not get a sandbox extension. oldURL: file:///Users/francois/Desktop/B.sgf, newURL: file:///Users/francois/Desktop/B.gop Again the sandbox ! (After closing the alert, I check that B.sgf did not register the change.) It’s clear my code is missing something, but what?

UIInputView not being deallocated
I am experiencing memory leaks in my iOS app that seem to be related to an issue between UIInputView and _UIInputViewContent. After using the memory graph, I'm seeing that instances of these objects aren't being deallocated properly. The UIInputViewController whichs holds the inputView is being deallocated properly along with its subviews.I have tried to remove all of UIInputViewController's subviews and their functions but the uiInputView is not being deallocated. The current setup of my app is a collectionView with multiple cell,each possessing a textfield with holds a UIInputViewController.When i scroll up or down,the views are being reused as expected and the number of UIInputViewController stays consistent with the number of textfields.However the number of inputView keeps increasing referencing solely _UIInputViewContent. class KeyboardViewController: UIInputViewController { // Callbacks var key1: ((String) -> Void)? var key2: (() -> Void)? var key3: (() -> Void)? var key4: (() -> Void)? private lazy var buttonTitles = [ ["1", "2", "3"], ["4", "5", "6"], ["7", "8", "9"] ] override func viewDidLoad() { super.viewDidLoad() setupKeyboard() } lazy var mainStackView: UIStackView = { let mainStackView = UIStackView() mainStackView.axis = .vertical mainStackView.distribution = .fillEqually mainStackView.spacing = 16 mainStackView.translatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints = false return mainStackView }() private func setupKeyboard() { let keyboardView = UIView(frame:CGRect(x: 0, y: 0, width: UIScreen.main.bounds.width, height: 279.0)) keyboardView.addSubview(mainStackView) NSLayoutConstraint.activate([ mainStackView.topAnchor.constraint(equalTo: keyboardView.topAnchor, constant: 16), mainStackView.leadingAnchor.constraint(equalTo: keyboardView.leadingAnchor, constant: 0), mainStackView.trailingAnchor.constraint(equalTo: keyboardView.trailingAnchor, constant: -24), mainStackView.bottomAnchor.constraint(equalTo: keyboardView.bottomAnchor, constant: -35) ]) // Create rows for (_, _) in buttonTitles.enumerated() { let rowStackView = UIStackView() rowStackView.axis = .horizontal rowStackView.distribution = .fillEqually rowStackView.spacing = 1 // Create buttons for each row for title in rowTitles { let button = createButton(title: title) rowStackView.addArrangedSubview(button) } mainStackView.addArrangedSubview(rowStackView) } self.view = keyboardView } private func createButton(title: String) -> UIButton { switch title { ///returns a uibutton based on title } } // MARK: - Button Actions @objc private func numberTapped(_ sender: UIButton) { if let number = sender.title(for: .normal) { key1?(number) } } @objc private func key2Called() { key2?() } @objc private func key3Called() { key3?() } @objc private func key4Called() { key4?() } deinit { // Clear any strong references key1 = nil key2 = nil key3 = nil key4 = nil for subview in mainStackView.arrangedSubviews { if let stackView = subview as? UIStackView { for button in stackView.arrangedSubviews { (button as? UIButton)?.removeTarget(self, action: nil, for: .allEvents) } } } mainStackView.removeFromSuperview() } } Environment iOS 16.3 Xcode 18.3.1 Any insights would be greatly appreciated as this is causing noticeable memory growth in my app over time.

Food Truck Sample animation issue from Table Component
Hi! I'm seeing some weird animation issues building the Food Truck sample application.^1 I'm running from macOS 15.4 and Xcode 16.3. I'm building the Food Truck application for macOS. I'm not focusing on iOS for now. The FoodTruckModel adds new Order values with an animation: // FoodTruckModel.swift withAnimation(.spring(response: 0.4, dampingFraction: 1)) { self.orders.append(orderGenerator.generateOrder(number: orders.count + 1, date: .now, generator: &generator)) } This then animates the OrdersTable when new Order values are added. Here is a small change to OrdersTable: // OrdersTable.swift - @State private var sortOrder = [KeyPathComparator(\Order.status, order: .reverse)] + @State private var sortOrder = [KeyPathComparator(\Order.creationDate, order: .reverse)] Running the app now inserts new Order values at the top. The problem is I seem to be seeing some weird animation issues here. It seems that as soon as the new Order comes in there is some kind of weird glitch where it appears as if part the animation is coming from the side instead of down from the top: What's then more weird is that if I seem to affect the state of the Table in any way then the next Order comes in with perfect animation. Scrolling the Table fixes the animation. Changing the creationData sort order from reverse to forward and back to reverse fixes the animation. Any ideas? Is there something about how the Food Truck product is built that would cause this to happen? Is this an underlying issue in the SwiftUI infra?
