YouTube now requires a Referer to be sent to be able to embed Youtube videos, otherwise the videos won't work. But WKWebView doesn't send a Referer when using a custom scheme, so Youtube videos stopped working in that case. This affects Ionic apps, both using Cordova or Capacitor. There's an open issue for Cordova and another one for Capacitor. In these apps, the app is served using a custom scheme like capacitor://localhost or ionic://localhost. I tried modifying the Ionic WebView source code to force adding a referrer to the URL loaded using WKWebView's loadRequest: [request addValue:@"https://my.test.app" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Referer"]; [_engineWebView loadRequest:request] But the Referer is still not sent in the Requests, I guess because the app is using a custom scheme (e.g. capacitor://localhost). However, if I modify this code to force loading an "online URL" (using https) instead of capacitor://localhost, then the my.test.app Referer is sent to the requests. Is there any way to make WKWebView send a Referer when using a custom scheme?

We are encountering a download issue in Safari 18.2 on macOS Sequoia 15.2 where file downloads initiated by our AngularJS application (such as Excel exports) are silently blocked. There are no errors in the browser console, and the download does not occur. Interestingly, after testing on Safari 18.3 with Sequoia 15.3, the downloads worked as expected. However, the problem reappeared on Safari 18.4 with Sequoia 15.4. We suspect that recent changes in Safari’s security or download handling may be preventing downloads triggered via asynchronous JavaScript (e.g., AJAX calls) that are not initiated directly by user interaction. Hi there I've been having trouble finding any details around how safari is supposed to behave when a FairPlay license expires. My assumption was that the video segments would stop getting decrypted and playback would stop, however I just see that the playback continues like nothing has happened. I've setup the "fps_safari_has_key_renewal.html" sample code from the Fairplay SDK and got encrypted playback working. The renewal method also appears to work. However, if I don't issue a renew call, or if I wait several minutes after the renew has succeeded the video never stops (my license is set with a 1 minute expiry so I can test this quickly). I've also observed that the MediaKeySession expiration property is always set to NaN even though my license has an expiry. I've tried with both Lease and Rental expiries set in the license (separately AND at the same time in separate tests). I'm using EZDRM as my drm provider. Just looking for some feedback on if this is supposed to work this way in safari or if license expiry isn't supported in safari. Thanks!

Hello, When I view my website (lasaluade) on iphone or ipad the top of my page bodies are cut off (3-4 first lines). However, on PC, Mac or Android everything is OK (see screenshots). For the record, I built this site with Wordpress and Divi Builder, and I've the same result on Safari and Chrome. Not being a developer, I don't know where to look (I just think it's iOS-related). Have you already had this problem? Do you have any ideas? Thanks for your help!

With most recent Safari update, our page started having some of it's core functionality broken while users access it on Private mode due to Fingerprinting protection. The issue is that the code that breaks is our first-party code and I want understand why it is breaking and how to properly fix it. One thing we discovered was that a service of ours that uses the same code base doesn't have these issues and current assumption is that their page bundles are served on the same domain as the actual page request, while ours is coming from a different one. The other assumption was that the domain which we use for serving the bundles of the page are set on the domain that is flagged as tracking domain. Is there some documentation on how Safari decides which code is allowed reading user inputs and which isn't and what is the appropriate approach to fix this issue as it would be possible that these changes get release as default in the future?

Enabling Private Relay seems to block XHR in Safari from reaching a local HTTPS server hosted by an iOS app, though it works in other browsers. Before (working): JS → https://local.example.com → 127.0.0.1 → OK After (blocked / no DNS reply probably): JS → https://local.example.com → ERR Is there any way to restore local domain access or mitigate this issue?

Hi all, I'm developing an application that uses WKWebView to display a web application which I augment with iOS native utilities such as Speech to Text and IAP. The application also uses Service workers, so we define AppBound Domains in the info.plist file. Everything works for this, but when we deploy on a device the application will crash and say we need these entitlements com.apple.developer.web-browser-engine.networking, com.apple.developer.web-browser-engine.rendering, com.apple.developer.web-browser-engine.webcontent, com.apple.runningboard.assertions.webkit From what I can see, we do need all of them. However Apple suggest submitting a request to be an Altnerative Browser (https://developer.apple.com/support/alternative-browser-engines) This is not appropriate for the application in my view since one requirement of being an alternative browser is that you don't modify the resources on the web site - we of course do since we inject javascript in order to bridge between iOS and the contents of the webview. How are people navigating this issue? I assumed it would be common given the use of Tauri etc. to build similar types of applications, but I don't see much about it. Thank you!

After reading several posts I see that I need to add the "com.apple.developer.web-browser.public-key-credential" capability to my macOS app in order to get it to work. So my noob question is where do I request this capability? Can I as a developer request it or does the Account owner need to request it? Once approved, how do I add it to my app's capabilities? Hello, As previous reports have already shown, there seems to be a few issues on the latest version of Safari, mainly around: Modals taking up the full viewport Elements positioned at the bottom of the screen This also seems to affect the modals on apple.com/iphone. I've recently done an analysis of what can and can't be done in code to work with the new liquid glass UI and thought I'd share my findings here. The conditions for a bottom sheet to cover the entire screen, including the area around the Safari toolbar seems to be: The element must be positioned within 3px from the bottom of the viewport The height must be within a certain threshold If I've missed anything, please let me know. It would be really nice to have some official documentation on these issues to explain to developers how to do this properly.

App Clip Popup Timing: When launching the App Clip using default URL, we sometimes see the small App Clip popup appear before the App Clip banner is displayed. Ideally, the banner should appear first. Cached URL Handling: In certain cases, the App Clip appears to be using a cached URL instead of the most recent one. For example, when we invoke two different App Clip URLs with unique parameters, the App Clip sometimes launches using the previous URL’s data instead of the new one. This behavior is inconsistent and makes it difficult to ensure users are directed to the correct experience each time. Hello all, I'm building a web application in ASP.NET MVC (.NET Framework 4.7.2), from this web app I need to send push notifications to users. For the ones who are logged in with windows/android, everything works as expected, but I can't manage to get it work on the apple side. If I use the same methods to subscribe to push notifications, it shows me the popup that asks the user to enable push notifications, and then I get an endpoint like this: https://web.push.apple.com/QKC1Muic0H7... It doesn't work using this (taking the part after https://web.push.apple.com/), I keep getting "Bad device token" (trying to send the notification via APNS). Then I found out that there is another method to register the device from the frontend, and this one should give me the real device token: window.safari.pushNotification.requestPermission But this one doesn't show me the popup, it gives me "denied" without a reason. We have a Safari extension that's been up on the App Store for about 18 months with no apparent issues. This week, however, while working on an update, we uninstalled the production version on our test machines and installed a developer version. When we had some issues, we tried to go back to the production version downloaded from the App Store, but we get an pop saying "Unable to download App." In the log, the most obviously relevant error is 'Operation not permitted'. This occurs on several machines and different logins on those machines in both norma and safe modes. However, on another machine that never had one installed, we could still install the app from the app store, so I suspect there is something left behind that needs to be removed, but I don't know what. FWIW, I see the download directory getting created under /Applications, but it is promptly removed when the failure popup appears. Any suggestions?

Hello from Leipzig, Germany! I noticed that when vertically scrolling in Safari 26 on my Mac, the content of the website I am currently working on is visible in the tab and URL bar with a liquid glass effect. I then looked at various other websites. Some websites have an opaque top bar. Some websites have a transparent top bar where content is visible when scrolling. On the Apple website, the top bar is opaque in light mode but transparent in dark mode. Unfortunately, I can't find a way to control this behavior. Has anyone found out more about this?

I want to confirm the specifications and behavior of Safari. We have a system built on Microsoft Azure that uses Azure AD B2C for authentication. When we logging in, there is a phone authentication feature where a call is made to the registered phone number. However, this phone authentication does not work properly only on iPhone's Safari. The specific situation is listed below: When performing phone authentication on iPhone's Safari, a call is made from Azure AD B2C, and pressing the # button on the Safari screen can be done. But then, it transitions to an error screen. We tried multiple iPhone devices and multiple iOS versions, but the result was the same. But when accessing the system on a PC, and performing phone authentication, it works without any errors. Also when we use browsers other than Safari (for example, Google Chrome and Firefox) on the iPhone, the phone authentication works without any errors, too. Even with Safari, if the device displaying the login screen and the device making the call are different, phone authentication works without any errors, too.(it fails if they are the same device). We reached out Microsoft about this issue, and they responded that: The Azure resource called FrontDoor at the front end of Azure AD B2C supports the HTTP/2 protocol, and HTTP/2 protocol is used in communication with Safari. In Safari's HTTP/2 communication, when a call is received while the screen is displayed, a reset packet is sent to the web server (in this case, the web server is FrontDoor). This interrupts the session, causing a session termination error on the Azure AD B2C side, and phone authentication fails. Therefore, we would like to ask you the following two points: In HTTP/2 communication, does the Safari browser send a reset packet to the web server when it receives a phone call? If so, what is the cause of this behavior? And are there any measures to prevent the reset packet from being sent?

Our UI-less share extension (com.apple.services) appears in Safari and Chrome. We raise a popup "Open in (app)..." via the Action.js script document.location.href = urlScheme://... in Safari. However, in Chrome, while our extension executes, parses the URL item attachment from Chrome, it never triggers that popup or opens our app. How can a UI-less share extension open our app from Chrome? Is the accepted practice, despite guidelines, turning the com.apple.ui-services view controller invisible and auto-openURLing? We have a Smart App Banner (including App Clip) on our website and have noticed today that the banner's background color has changed. It no longer has the default white background and blue button color, instead it has a background color that matches our page's background, and even the color of the button has changed. What's interesting is that we have not triggered this change at all. The colors seemingly changed by themselves. Looking at the Apple Documentation, no customization options are mentioned. Searching the web, the theme-color meta tag is mentioned in relation to this, however we haven't even included that tag on our page. What is triggering this color change then and how can we influence it?
