My audio app shows a control bar at the bottom of the window. The controls show nicely, but there is a black "slab" appearing behind the inline controls, the same size as the playerView. Setting the player view background color does nothing:
playerView.wantsLayer = true playerView.layer?.backgroundColor = NSColor.clear.cgColor
How can I clear the background?
If I use .floating controlsStyle, I don't get the background "slab".

I discovered when editing photos with the PhotoKit API, PHContentEditingOutput's renderedContentURL is a file in the app container's tmp directory with a filename that seems to follow the format render.<uuid>.JPG, and that file does not get deleted if the edit does not complete successfully (the user cancels the edit request, an error occurs, the app crashes, etc). I understand the system is supposed to automatically delete tmp files every once in a while, but some users are noticing my app's Documents & Data inflates, so I'm considering deleting these render files each time the app is launched. But I don't want to delete everything in the tmp directory as there could possibly be other data in there.
What's the best way to remove those temporary files? Does the filename always start with render. no matter the device language? I thought I'd delete files in NSTemporaryDirectory() with that prefix but then I discovered in Mac Catalyst the location is not the tmp directory directly, they're in tmp/TemporaryItems/<bundleid>.
Thanks!
I'm developing a TTS Audio Unit Extension that needs to write trace/log files to a shared App Group container. While the main app can successfully create and write files to the container, the extension gets sandbox denied errors despite having proper App Group entitlements configured.
Setup:
Main App (Flutter) and TTS Audio Unit Extension share the same App Group
App Group is properly configured in developer portal and entitlements
Main app successfully creates and uses files in the container
Container structure shows existing directories (config/, dictionary/) with populated files
Both targets have App Group capability enabled and entitlements set
Current behavior:
Extension can access/read the App Group container
Extension can see existing directories and files
All write attempts are blocked with "sandbox deny(1) file-write-create" errors
Code example:
const char* createSharedGroupPathWithComponent(const char* groupId, const char* component) {
NSString* groupIdStr = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:groupId];
NSString* componentStr = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:component];
NSURL* url = [[NSFileManager defaultManager]
containerURLForSecurityApplicationGroupIdentifier:groupIdStr];
NSURL* fullPath = [url URLByAppendingPathComponent:componentStr];
NSError *error = nil;
if (![[NSFileManager defaultManager] createDirectoryAtPath:fullPath.path
withIntermediateDirectories:YES
attributes:nil
error:&error]) {
NSLog(@"Unable to create directory %@", error.localizedDescription);
}
return [[fullPath path] UTF8String];
}
Error output:
Sandbox: simaromur-extension(996) deny(1) file-write-create /private/var/mobile/Containers/Shared/AppGroup/36CAFE9C-BD82-43DD-A962-2B4424E60043/trace
Key questions:
Are there additional entitlements required for TTS Audio Unit Extensions to write to App Group containers?
Is this a known limitation of TTS Audio Unit Extensions?
What is the recommended way to handle logging/tracing in TTS Audio Unit Extensions?
If writing to App Group containers is not supported, what alternatives are available?
Current entitlements:
<dict>
<key>com.apple.security.application-groups</key>
<array>
<string>group.com.<company>.<appname></string>

Hi everyone 👋
I’m building an iOS app in Swift where I want to do the following:
Record the user’s voice
Transcribe the spoken sentence (speech-to-text)
Auto-detect the spoken language
Translate it to another language selected by the user (e.g., English → Spanish or Hindi → English)
Speak back (text-to-speech) the translated text on the same device
Is this possible to record via phone mic and play the transcribe voice into headphone's audio?
Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how to possibly get approved as an Apple News Publisher in 2025?
We attempted in 2024, but received this message from Apple support:
"Thank you for your interest in Apple News. At this time, we're not accepting new applications."
When I inquired further, I got this second response:
"Apple News is no longer accepting unsolicited applications. To learn more about Apple News requirements, visit the Apple News support page. If you have any feedback, please use this form to send us your comments. Keep in mind that while we read all feedback, we are unable to respond to each submission individually."
My questions are:
Is this still the case? (Especially when you are a legit local news outlet)
Is there a link to apply as a news publisher? I don't seem to have that option at all.
Thanks for any feedback.
Is there a way to destroy MIDIUMPMutableEndpoint again?
In my app, the user has a setting to enable and disable MIDI 2.0. If MIDI 2.0 should not be supported (or if iOS version < 18), it creates a virtual destination and a virtual source. And if MIDI 2.0 should be enabled, it instead creates a MIDIUMPMutableEndpoint, which itself creates the virtual destination and source automatically.
So here is my problem: I didn't find any way to destroy the MIDIUMPMutableEndpoint again. There is a method to disable it (setEnabled:NO), but that doesn't destroy or hide the virtual destination and source. So when the user turns MIDI 2.0 support off, I will have two virtual destinations and sources, and cannot get rid of the 2.0 ones.
What is the correct way to get rid of the MIDIUMPMutableEndpoint once it is created?
I have an app that has a WKWebView for watching YouTube videos. When the videos are windowed the audio seems fine, positionally as well. All perfectly.
When I fullscreen the video and it goes into the native visionOS video player the audio messes up.
It will suddenly sound like it is in your ears, or maybe even just one ear channel, or the position will be wrong. It might be fine for a moment but the second I touch the controls or move the window the sound jumps across the room, away from the window, or switches to stereo.
Sometimes exiting windows entirely you will still hear the videos playing. Even if you open the window back up and go to another screen and open another video, now you hear 2 videos playing at the same time with no way to stop the first one in the background, requiring to force restart the app.
It is all sorts of glitchy. I haven't the slightest clue what is happening here. I am strongly feeling this is a visionOS bug.
I tried using AVAudioSession to change some of the sound settings, and that makes zero difference in behavior.
Multiple testers have also reported this behavior and it has been seen on both visionOS 2.3 and 2.4 betas.
Thanks for the help! This is driving me mad! It is extremely consistent behavior!
I'm experiencing an issue with my app when saving images to the camera roll. This is intermittent, but it happens several times a day. The error I receive is the following:

My code is unchanged from using my app daily on an iPhone 16 Pro with iOS 26. I never saw the issue on this device.
Here is an excerpt from my code for saving the image:
var localIdentifier = String()
PHPhotoLibrary.shared().performChanges({
let albumChangeRequest = PHAssetCollectionChangeRequest(for: album)
let assetCreationRequest = PHAssetCreationRequest.forAsset()
let options = PHAssetResourceCreationOptions()
assetCreationRequest.addResource(with: .photo, data: imageData, options: options)
assetCreationRequest.creationDate = Date.now
let placeHolder = assetCreationRequest.placeholderForCreatedAsset
albumChangeRequest?.addAssets([placeHolder!] as NSArray)
if placeHolder != nil {
localIdentifier = (placeHolder?.localIdentifier)!
}
}) { (didSucceed, error) in
OperationQueue.main.addOperation({
didSucceed ? success(localIdentifier) : failure(error)
})
}
I'm not sure why this would be device specific but I have had users with iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air reporting the issue.

According to the header file the outputVolume properties supported range is 0.0-1.0:
/*! @property outputVolume
@abstract The mixer's output volume.
@discussion
This accesses the mixer's output volume (0.0-1.0, inclusive).
@property (nonatomic) float outputVolume;
However when setting the volume to 2.0 the audio does indeed play louder. Is the header file out of date and if so, what is the supported range for outputVolume?
Thanks
Hello, I'm trying to subscribe to AVPlayerItem status updates using Combine and it's bridge to Swift Concurrency – .values.
This is my sample code.
struct ContentView: View {
@State var player: AVPlayer?
@State var loaded = false
var body: some View {
VStack {
if let player {
Text("loading status: \(loaded)")
Spacer()
VideoPlayer(player: player)
Button("Load") {
Task {
let item = AVPlayerItem(
url: URL(string: "https://sample-videos.com/video321/mp4/360/big_buck_bunny_360p_5mb.mp4")!
)
player.replaceCurrentItem(with: item)
let publisher = player.publisher(for: \.status)
for await status in publisher.values {
print(status.rawValue)
if status == .readyToPlay {
loaded = true
break
}
}
print("we are out")
}
}
}
else {
Text("No video selected")
}
}
.task {
player = AVPlayer()
}
}
}
After I click on the "load" button it prints out 0 (as the initial status of .unknown) and nothing after – even when the video is fully loaded.
At the same time this works as expected (loading status is set to true):
struct ContentView: View {
@State var player: AVPlayer?
@State var loaded = false
@State var cancellable: AnyCancellable?
var body: some View {
VStack {
if let player {
Text("loading status: \(loaded)")
Spacer()
VideoPlayer(player: player)
Button("Load") {
Task {
let item = AVPlayerItem(
url: URL(string: "https://sample-videos.com/video321/mp4/360/big_buck_bunny_360p_5mb.mp4")!
)
player.replaceCurrentItem(with: item)
let stream = AsyncStream { continuation in
cancellable = item.publisher(for: \.status)
.sink {
if $0 == .readyToPlay {
continuation.yield($0)
continuation.finish()
}
}
}
for await _ in stream {
loaded = true
cancellable?.cancel()
cancellable = nil
break
}
}
}
}
else {
Text("No video selected")
}
}
.task {
player = AVPlayer()
}
}
}
Is this a bug or something?
I am developing an app that uses MusicKit to play music and then I need to have spoken words played to the user, while ducking the audio coming from MusicKit (application music player)
the built in Siri voices are not off sufficient quality so I am using an external service to create an mp3 file and then play this back using AVAudioSession
Sample code below
the problem I am having is that .duckOthers is not ducking the Application Music Player output
Is this a bug or am I doing this wrong?
// Configure audio session for system-wide ducking
try AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().setCategory(.playback, mode: .spokenAudio, options: [.duckOthers, .mixWithOthers])
try AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().setActive(true)
// Set the ducking level to maximum
try AVAudioSession.sharedInstance().setPreferredIOBufferDuration(0.005)
// Create and configure audio player
self.audioPlayer = try AVAudioPlayer(data: audioData)
self.audioPlayer?.delegate = self
self.audioPlayer?.volume = 1.0 // Ensure full volume for speech
self.audioPlayer?.prepareToPlay()
// Set the audio player's settings for maximum clarity
self.audioPlayer?.enableRate = false
self.audioPlayer?.pan = 0.0 // Center the audio
self.audioPlayer?.play()
Currently, I am using the Broadcast UploadExtension function to obtain samplebuffer data through APP Group and IPC (based on the local Unix Domain Socket) The screen recording data transmission method of the domain socket is transmitted to the APP. However, when the APP goes back to the background to view videos in the album or other audio and video, the data transmission stops and the APP cannot obtain the screen recording data. I would like to ask how to solve this problem. I suspect that the system has suspended the extended screen recording

We noticed the behaviour of expiration of FairPlay license changed from iOS 16.x to some version iOS 17 and the latest iOS 18.3.2 and Safari.
On iOS 16.x, the video playback will stop when the license expires, but on iOS 17.x + the video continues but no audio and no error fired.
On latest Safari the video and audio all continues.
Any changes for the latest FairPlay and how we adapt this from the license server?
Thanks
Hello,
I am trying to access the Apple Music Feed API, but I am recieving a 401 Unauthorized error message whenever I try to access it.
I have tried using my own code to generate a JWT and directly call the API (which can call the standard Apple Music API successfully).

> Host: api.media.apple.com
> user-agent: insomnia/2023.5.8
> authorization: Bearer [REDACTED]

and also the Apple provided Python example code, which gives me authentication errors too.
$ python3 ./apple_music_feed_example.py --key-id NMBH[...] --team-id 3TNZ[...] --secret-key-file-path "/Users/foxt/Documents/am-feed/NMBH[...].p8" --out-dir .
running....

Exception: Authentication Failed. Did you provide the correct team id, key id, and p8 file?
Does this API need to be enabled on my account separately from the main Apple Music API? The documentation reads to me as if anyone with an Apple Developer Programme membership can use this API and I did not see any information regarding any other requirements
who can help me to make app for iOS with XCode

I'm writing some camera functionality that uses AVCaptureVideoDataOutput.
I've set it up so that it calls my AVCaptureVideoDataOutputSampleBufferDelegate on a background thread, by making my own dispatch_queue and configuring the AVCaptureVideoDataOutput.
My question is then, if I configure my AVCaptureSession differently, or even stop it altogether, is this guaranteed to flush all pending jobs on my background thread?
I have a more practical example below, showing how I am accessing something from the foreground thread from the background thread, but I wonder when/how it's safe to clean up that resource.
I have setup similar to the following:
// Foreground thread logic
dispatch_queue_t queue = dispatch_queue_create("avf_camera_queue", nullptr);
AVCaptureSession *captureSession = [[AVCaptureSession alloc] init];
setupInputDevice(captureSession); // Connects the AVCaptureDevice...
// Store some arbitrary data to be attached to the frame, stored on the foreground thread
FrameMetaData frameMetaData = ...;
MySampleBufferDelegate *sampleBufferDelegate = [MySampleBufferDelegate alloc];
// Capture frameMetaData by reference in lambda
[sampleBufferDelegate setFrameMetaDataGetter: [&frameMetaData]() { return &frameMetaData; }];
AVCaptureVideoDataOutput *captureVideoDataOutput = [[AVCaptureVideoDataOutput alloc] init];
[captureVideoDataOutput setSampleBufferDelegate:sampleBufferDelegate
queue:queue];
[captureSession addOutput:captureVideoDataOutput];
[captureSession startRunning];
[captureSession stopRunning];
// Is it now safe to destroy frameMetaData, or do we need manual barrier?
And then in MySampleBufferDelegate:
- (void)captureOutput:(AVCaptureOutput *)captureOutput
didOutputSampleBuffer:(CMSampleBufferRef)sampleBuffer
fromConnection:(AVCaptureConnection *)connection
{
// Invokes the callback set above
FrameMetaData *frameMetaData = frameMetaDataGetter();
emitSampleBuffer(sampleBuffer, frameMetaData);
}
Hi guys,
I am having issue in live-streaming audio from Bluetooth headset and playing it live on the iPhone speaker.
I am able to redirect audio back to the headset but this is not what I want.
The issue happens when I am trying to override output - the iPhone switches to speaker but also switches a microphone.
This is example of the code:
import AVFoundation
class AudioRecorder {
let player: AVAudioPlayerNode
let engine:AVAudioEngine
let audioSession:AVAudioSession
let audioSessionOutput:AVAudioSession
init() {
self.player = AVAudioPlayerNode()
self.engine = AVAudioEngine()
self.audioSession = AVAudioSession.sharedInstance()
self.audioSessionOutput = AVAudioSession()
do {
try self.audioSession.setCategory(AVAudioSession.Category.playAndRecord, options: [.defaultToSpeaker])
try self.audioSessionOutput.setCategory(AVAudioSession.Category.playAndRecord, options: [.allowBluetooth]) // enables Bluetooth HFP profile
try self.audioSession.setMode(AVAudioSession.Mode.default)
try self.audioSession.setActive(true)
// try self.audioSession.overrideOutputAudioPort(.speaker) // doens't work
} catch {
print(error)
}
let input = self.engine.inputNode
self.engine.attach(self.player)
let bus = 0
let inputFormat = input.inputFormat(forBus: bus)
self.engine.connect(self.player, to: engine.mainMixerNode, format: inputFormat)
input.installTap(onBus: bus, bufferSize: 512, format: inputFormat) { (buffer, time) -> Void in
self.player.scheduleBuffer(buffer)
print(buffer)
}
}
public func start() {
try! self.engine.start()
self.player.play()
}
public func stop() {
self.player.stop()
self.engine.stop()
}
}
I am not sure if this is a bug or not.
Can somebody point me into the right direction?
I there a way to design a custom audio routing?
I would also appreciate some good documentation besides AVFoundation docs.
Hi,
I'm sending an API request to:
https://api.music.apple.com/v1/me/library/playlists?limit=$limit&offset=$offset
To list all of the users library playlists, however the resulting objects do not contain the playlist artwork in the JSON. I've tried adding the extend and include attributes as well but to no avail.
A partial example of the response:
{"id": PLAYLIST_ID, "type": "library-playlists", "href": "/v1/me/library/playlists/PLAYLIST_ID", "attributes": {"lastModifiedDate": "2024-09-18T20:18:24Z", "canEdit": true, "name": "Afro Party Anthems", "isPublic": false, "description": {"standard": "Definitive African party starters"}, "hasCatalog": false, "dateAdded": "2022-03-10T18:30:56Z", "playParams": {"id": PLAYLIST_ID, "kind": "playlist", "isLibrary": true}}, "relationships": {"catalog": {"href": "/v1/me/library/playlists/PLAYLIST_ID/catalog", "data": []}}}
Is there a way to get the artwork URL without sending a request for each playlist? And if not can this be fixed?
I have a music app I'm developing and having a weird issue where I can see now playing info for every other platform than tvOS. As far as I can tell I have correctly configured the MPNowPlayingInfoCenter
MPNowPlayingInfoCenter.default().nowPlayingInfo = nowPlayingInfo MPNowPlayingInfoCenter.default().playbackState = .playing
Are there any extra requirements to get my app's now-playing info showing in control center on tvOS? Another strange issue that might be related is I can use the apple TV remote to pause audio but not resume playback, so I feel like there's something I'm missing about registering audio playback on tvOS specifically.
