Visual Intelligence -- Make OpenIntent show a sheet rather than open my App
The developer tutorial for visual intelligence indicates that the method to detect and handle taps on a displayed entity from the Search section is via an "OpenIntent" associated with your entity. However, running this intent executes code from within my app. If I have the perform() method display UI, it always displays UI from within my app. I noticed that the Google app's integration to visual intelligence has a different behavior-- tapping on an entity does not take you to the Google app -- instead, a Webview is presented sheet-style WITHIN the Visual Intelligence environment (see below) How is that accomplished?

Is there an API to check if a Core ML compiled model is already cached?
Hello Apple Developer Community, I'm investigating Core ML model loading behavior and noticed that even when the compiled model path remains unchanged after an APP update, the first run still triggers an "uncached load" process. This seems to impact user experience with unnecessary delays. Question: Does Core ML provide any public API to check whether a compiled model (from a specific .mlmodelc path) is already cached in the system? If such API exists, we'd like to use it for pre-loading decision logic - only perform background pre-load when the model isn't cached. Has anyone encountered similar scenarios or found official solutions? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Core-ml-on-device-llama Converting fails
I followed below url for converting Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct model but always fails even i have 64GB of free space after downloading model from huggingface. https://machinelearning.apple.com/research/core-ml-on-device-llama Also tried with other models Llama-3.1-1B-Instruct & Llama-3.1-3B-Instruct models those are converted but while doing performance test in xcode fails for all compunits. Is there any source code to run llama models in ios app.

CreateML Training Object Detection Not using MPS
Hi everyone Im currently developing an object detection model that shall identify up to seven classes in an image. While im usually doing development with basic python and the ultralytics library, i thought i would like to give CreateML a shot. The experience is actually very nice, except for the fact that the model seem not to be using any ANE or GPU (MPS) for accelerated training. On https://developer.apple.com/machine-learning/create-ml/ it states: "On-device training Train models blazingly fast right on your Mac while taking advantage of CPU and GPU." Am I doing something wrong? Im running the training on Apple M1 Pro 16GB MacOS 26.1 (Tahoe) Xcode 26.1 (Build version 17B55) It would be super nice to get some feedback or instructions. SwiftUI App Intent throws error when using requestDisambiguation with @Parameter property wrapper
I'm implementing an App Intent for my iOS app that helps users plan trip activities. It only works when run as a shortcut but not using voice through Siri. There are 2 issues: The ShortcutsTripEntity will only accept a voice input for a specific trip but not others. I'm stuck with a throwing error when trying to use requestDisambiguation() on the activity day @Parameter property. How do I rectify these issues. This is blocking me from completing a critical feature that lets users quickly plan activities through Siri and Shortcuts. Expected behavior for trip input: The intent should make Siri accept the spoken trip input from any of the options. Actual behavior for trip input: Siri only accepts the same trip when spoken but accepts any when selected by click/touch. Expected behavior for day input: Siri should accept the spoken selected option. Actual behavior for day input: Siri only accepts an input by click/touch but yet throws an error at runtime I'm happy to provide more code. `LanguageModelSession.respond()` never resolves in Beta 5
Hi all, I noticed on Friday that on the new Beta 5 using FoundationModels on a simulator LanguageModelSession.respond() neither resolves nor throws most of the time. Foundational Model - Image as Input? Timeline
Hi all, I am interested in unlocking unique applications with the new foundational models. I have a few questions regarding the availability of the following features: Image Input: The update in June 2025 mentions "image" 44 times (https://machinelearning.apple.com/research/apple-foundation-models-2025-updates) - however I can't seem to find any information about having images as the input/prompt for the foundational models. When will this be available? I understand that there are existing Vision ML APIs, but I want image input into a multimodal on-device LLM (VLM) instead for features like "Which player is holding the ball in the image", etc (image understanding) Cloud Foundational Model - when will this be available? Provide actionable feedback for the Foundation Models framework and the on-device LLM
We are really excited to have introduced the Foundation Models framework in WWDC25. When using the framework, you might have feedback about how it can better fit your use cases. Starting in macOS/iOS 26 Beta 4, the best way to provide feedback is to use #Playground in Xcode. To do so: In Xcode, create a playground using #Playground. Fore more information, see Running code snippets using the playground macro. Reproduce the issue by setting up a session and generating a response with your prompt. In the canvas on the right, click the thumbs-up icon to the right of the response. Follow the instructions on the pop-up window and submit your feedback by clicking Share with Apple. Another way to provide your feedback is to file a feedback report with relevant details. Specific to the Foundation Models framework, it’s super important to add the following information in your report: Language model feedback This feedback contains the session transcript, including the instructions, the prompts, the responses, etc. Without that, we can’t reason the model’s behavior, and hence can hardly take any action. Use logFeedbackAttachment(sentiment:issues:desiredOutput: ) to retrieve the feedback data of your current model session, as shown in the usage example, write the data into a file, and then attach the file to your feedback report. If you believe what you’d report is related to the system configuration, please capture a sysdiagnose and attach it to your feedback report as well. The framework is still new. Apple on-device AI models
Hello, I am studying macOS26 Apple Intelligence features. I have created a basic swift program with Xcode. This program is sending prompts to FoundationModels.LanguageModelSession. It works fine but this model is not trained for programming or code completion. Xcode has an AI code completion feature. It is called "Predictive Code completion model". So, there are multiple on-device models on macOS26 ? Are there others ? Is there a way for me to send prompts to this "Predictive Code completion model" from my program ? Thanks

Keras on Mac (M4) is giving inconsistent results compared to running on NVIDIA GPUs
I have seen inconsistent results for my Colab machine learning notebooks running locally on a Mac M4, compared to running the same notebook code on either T4 (in Colab) or a RTX3090 locally. To illustrate the problems I have set up a notebook that implements two simple CNN models that solves the Fashion-MNIST problem. https://colab.research.google.com/drive/11BhtHhN079-BWqv9QvvcSD9U4mlVSocB?usp=sharing For the good model with 2M parameters I get the following results: T4 (Colab, JAX): Test accuracy: 0.925 3090 (Local PC via ssh tunnel, Jax): Test accuracy: 0.925 Mac M4 (Local, JAX): Test accuracy: 0.893 Mac M4 (Local, Tensorflow): Test accuracy: 0.893 That is, I see a significant drop in performance when I run on the Mac M4 compared to the NVIDIA machines, and it seems to be independent of backend. I however do not know how to pinpoint this to either Keras or Apple’s METAL implementation. I have reported this to Keras: https://colab.research.google.com/drive/11BhtHhN079-BWqv9QvvcSD9U4mlVSocB?usp=sharing but as this can be (likely is?) an Apple Metal issue, I wanted to report this here as well. Pre-inference AI Safety Governor for FoundationModels (Swift, On-Device)
Hi everyone, I've been building an on-device AI safety layer called Newton Engine, designed to validate prompts before they reach FoundationModels (or any LLM). Wanted to share v1.3 and get feedback from the community. The Problem Current AI safety is post-training — baked into the model, probabilistic, not auditable. When Apple Intelligence ships with FoundationModels, developers will need a way to catch unsafe prompts before inference, with deterministic results they can log and explain. What Newton Does Newton validates every prompt pre-inference and returns: Phase (0/1/7/8/9) Shape classification Confidence score Full audit trace If validation fails, generation is blocked. SpeechTranscriber time indexes - detect pauses?
I'm experimenting with the new SpeechTranscriber in macOS/iOS 26, transcribing speech from a prerecorded mp4 file. Speed and quality are amazing! I've told the transcriber to include time indexes. Each run is always exactly one word, which can be very useful. When I look at the indexes the end of one run is always identical to the start of the next run, even if there's a pause. I'd like to identify pauses, perhaps to generate something like phrases for subtitling. With each run of text going into the next I can't do this, other than using punctuation - which might be rather rough. Any suggestions on detecting pauses, or getting that kind of metadata from the transcriber? Massive CoreML latency spike on live AVFoundation camera feed vs. offline inference (CPU+ANE)
Hello, I’m experiencing a severe performance degradation when running CoreML models on a live AVFoundation video feed compared to offline or synthetic inference. This happens across multiple models I've converted (including SCI, RTMPose, and RTMW) and affects multiple devices. The Environment OS: macOS 26.3, iOS 26.3, iPadOS 26.3 Hardware: Mac14,6 (M2 Max), iPad Pro 11 M1, iPhone 13 mini Compute Units: cpuAndNeuralEngine The Numbers When testing my SCI_output_image_int8.mlpackage model, the inference timings are drastically different: Synthetic/Offline Inference: ~1.34 ms Live Camera Inference: ~15.96 ms Preprocessing is completely ruled out as the bottleneck. My profiling shows total preprocessing (nearest-neighbor resize + feature provider creation) takes only ~0.4 ms in camera mode. Furthermore, no frames are being dropped. What I've Tried I am building a latency-critical app and have implemented almost every recommended optimization to try and fix this, but the camera-feed penalty remains: Matched the AVFoundation camera output format exactly to the model input (640x480 at 30/60fps). Used IOSurface-backed pixel buffers for everything (camera output, synthetic buffer, and resize buffer). Enabled outputBackings. Loaded the model once and reused it for all predictions. Configured MLModelConfiguration with reshapeFrequency = .frequent and specializationStrategy = .fastPrediction. Wrapped inference in ProcessInfo.processInfo.beginActivity(options: .latencyCritical, reason: "CoreML_Inference"). Set DispatchQueue to qos: .userInteractive. Disabled the idle timer and enabled iOS Game Mode. Exported models using coremltools 9.0 (deployment target iOS 26) with ImageType inputs/outputs and INT8 quantization. Reproduction To completely rule out UI or rendering overhead, I wrote a standalone Swift CLI script that isolates the AVFoundation and CoreML pipeline. The script clearly demonstrates the ~15ms latency on live camera frames versus the ~1ms latency on synthetic buffers. (I have attached camera_coreml_benchmark.swift and coreml model (very light low light enghancement model) to this repo on github https://github.com/pzoltowski/apple-coreml-camera-latency-repro). My Question: Is this massive overhead expected behavior for AVFoundation + Core ML on live feeds, or is this a framework/runtime bug? If expected, what is the Apple-recommended pattern to bypass this camera-only inference slowdown? One think found interesting when running in debug model was faster (not as fast as in performance benchmark but faster than 16ms. Also somehow if I did some dummy calculation on on different DispatchQueue also seems like model got slightly faster. So maybe its related to ANE Power State issues (Jitter/SoC Wake) and going to fast to sleep and taking a long time to wakeup? Doing dummy calculation in background thought is probably not a solution. KV-Cache MLState Not Updating During Prefill Stage in Core ML LLM Inference
Hello, I'm running a large language model (LLM) in Core ML that uses a key-value cache (KV-cache) to store past attention states. The model was converted from PyTorch using coremltools and deployed on-device with Swift. The KV-cache is exposed via MLState and is used across inference steps for efficient autoregressive generation. During the prefill stage — where a prompt of multiple tokens is passed to the model in a single batch to initialize the KV-cache — I’ve noticed that some entries in the KV-cache are not updated after the inference. Specifically: Here are a few details about the setup: The MLState returned by the model is identical to the input state (often empty or zero-initialized) for some tokens in the batch. The issue only happens during the prefill stage (i.e., first call over multiple tokens). During decoding (single-token generation), the KV-cache updates normally. The model is invoked using MLModel.prediction(from:using:options:) for each batch. I’ve confirmed: The prompt tokens are non-repetitive and not masked. The model spec has MLState inputs/outputs correctly configured for KV-cache tensors. Each token is processed in a loop with the correct positional encodings. Questions: Is there any known behavior in Core ML that could prevent MLState from updating during batched or prefill inference? Could this be caused by internal optimizations such as lazy execution, static masking, or zero-value short-circuiting? How can I confirm that each token in the batch is contributing to the KV-cache during prefill? Any insights from the Core ML or LLM deployment community would be much appreciated.

Context window 90% of adapter model full after single user prompt
I have been able to train an adapter on Google's Colaboratory. I am able to start a LanguageModelSession and load it with my adapter. The problem is that after one simple prompt, the context window is 90% full. If I start the session without the adapter, the same simple prompt consumes only 1% of the context window. Has anyone encountered this? I asked Claude AI and it seems to think that my training script needs adjusting. Grok on the other hand is (wrongly, I tried) convinced that I just need to tweak some parameters of LanguageModelSession or SystemLanguageModel. Thanks for any tips.
