Hi there,
Is it possible to customize the Metal Performance HUD on Apple TV, similar to how it can be done on iPhone & iPad?
Would like to see things like Compiled Shaders for my Apps on tvOS

I can't create any breakpoint in my Xcode after I upgraded to macOS 15.4
macOS: Version 15.4 (24E248)
visionOS Simulator: 2.3
Xcode: Version 16.2 (16C5032a)
My app works well without any breakpoints.
But if I create any breakpoint it shows me this:
Couldn't find the Objective-C runtime library in loaded images.
Message from debugger: The LLDB RPC server has crashed. You may need to manually terminate your process. The crash log is located in ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports and has a prefix 'lldb-rpc-server'. Please file a bug and attach the most recent crash log.
If I create a bitmap image and then try to get ready to draw into it, like so:
NSBitmapImageRep* newRep = [[NSBitmapImageRep alloc]
initWithBitmapDataPlanes: nullptr
pixelsWide: 128
pixelsHigh: 128
bitsPerSample: 8
samplesPerPixel: 4
hasAlpha: YES
isPlanar: NO
colorSpaceName: NSDeviceRGBColorSpace
bitmapFormat: NSBitmapFormatAlphaNonpremultiplied |
NSBitmapFormatThirtyTwoBitBigEndian
bytesPerRow: 4 * 128
bitsPerPixel: 32];
[NSGraphicsContext setCurrentContext:
[NSGraphicsContext graphicsContextWithBitmapImageRep: newRep]];
then the log shows this error:

If I don't use NSBitmapFormatAlphaNonpremultiplied as part of the format, I don't get the error message. My question is, why does the constant NSBitmapFormatAlphaNonpremultiplied exist if you can't use it like this?
If you're wondering why I wanted to do this: I want to extract the RGBA pixel data from an image, which might have non-premultiplied alpha. And elsewhere online, I saw advice that if you want to look at the pixels of an image, draw it into a bitmap whose format you know and look at those pixels. And I don't want the process of drawing to premultiply my alpha.
What is the current [most recent] best practice to instancing Meshes in RealityKit?
I see both MeshInstanceComponent and MeshInstanceCollection.
My intent is to bind a transform to a Circle Agent (GameplayKit Agent), and feed that result to Instancing.
Im new in the Mac area but for sure not UE. Windows is a long process to packaging but it could be done. All the documentation for Epic and from the internet is basically non existent with exactly how to package a project within UE. I have Xcode installed which makes sense, agreed to terms and install for MacOS, I've been able to make a project for several weeks now and want to package for a test run for my friends to play on Windows. Now I just get this in the log:

This absolutely makes no sense to me. Anyone have ideas?
Hello everyone and thank you for you're time!
I got an issue with uploading several icons to testflight. I'm using Game Maker Studio as my engine for the game.
This is the error that I'm getting, even when I try to use the old icons for the game, that worked in the past. I tried to transform the icons, using this site "https://makeappicon.com/", but I still got the same validation error. Can you help me fixing the issue - thank you so much!
When testing my development build for gamecenter authentication, the game crashes. I've breadcrumbed it to the "await GKLocalPlayer.Authenticate();" call. Can't find any documentation on this issue and have been looking through the forums!
I've already done all of the usual stuff like verifying bundle identifiers match, ensuring game center is enabled for the app, setting up app store connect, using a sandbox account, etc...
Please point me to some resources if you know any. Any help is appreciated, I'm starting to lose hope here!
On an iPad running iPadOS 26 beta 4, when tapping the Game Center Access Point, the overlay doesn’t show the configured achievements, leaderboards or challenges.
I should specify this is an in-development app and the achievements and leaderboards are in the “Not Live” state, however they show on other devices running iOS 18 in the Access Point UI.
Anyone else having this issue? If so, how should I test achievements and leaderboards while iOS 26 beta is out?
The UI looks like this on iPadOS 26:
The sample code here, has code like:
// Create a display link capable of being used with all active displays
cvReturn = CVDisplayLinkCreateWithActiveCGDisplays(&_displayLink);
But that function's doc says it's deprecated and to use NSView/NSWindow/NSScreen displayLink instead. That returns CADisplayLink, not CVDisplayLink.
Also the documentation for that displayLink method is completely empty. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to add it to run loop, or what, after I get it.
It would be nice to get an updated version of this sample project and/or have some documentation in NSView.displayLink

Does anyone have a working example on how to play OGG files with swift?
I've been trying for over a year now. I was able to wrap the C Vorbis library in swift. I then used it to parse an OGG file successfully. Then I was required to use Obj-C\++ to fill the PCM because this method seems to only be available in C\++ and that part hangs my app for a good 40 seconds to several minutes depending on the audio file, it then plays for about 2 seconds and then crashes.
I can't get the examples on the Vorbis site to work in objective-c and i tried every example on github I could find (most of which are for iOS - I want to play the files on mac)
I also tried using Cricket Audio framework below.
https://github.com/sjmerel/ck
It has a swift example and it can play their proprietary soundbank format but it is also supposed to play OGG and it just doesn't do anything when trying to play OGG as you can see in the posted issue
https://github.com/sjmerel/ck/issues/3
Right now I believe every player that can play OGGs on mac is written in Objective-C or C++.
Anyway, any help/advice is appreciated. OGG format is very prevalent in the gaming community. I could use unity, which I believe plays oggs through the mono framework but I really really want to stay in swift.
Hello,
I'm getting this error when launching a SpriteKit Swift game in iOS 18+ on an iPhone 11 Pro, whose shell is partly damaged in the back:
CHHapticEngine.mm:1206 -[CHHapticEngine doStartWithCompletionHandler:]_block_invoke: ERROR: Player start failed: The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.CoreHaptics error 1852797029.)
Haptics do not work on this device, due to the damaged shell, so some error — which obviously occurs when calling start(completionHandler:) — is definitely expected; what is not expected is the main thread sometimes blocking for up to 5 seconds — although the method is not called from the main thread... the error itself is always displayed from some other secondary (system) thread. During this time, the main thread does not access the haptics engine at all; on average, it blocks once every four or five launches. In each launch (blocking or not), the 'nope' error is displayed ~5 seconds after trying to start the engine.
After going nuts with all kinds of breakpoints and instrumentation, I'm at a loss as to why the main thread would sometimes block...
Ideas, anyone?
Thank you,
D.
Hello,
Thank you for attending today’s Metal & game technologies group lab at WWDC25!
We were delighted to answer many questions from developers and energized by the community engagement.
We hope you enjoyed it and welcome your feedback.
We invite you to carry on the conversation here, particularly if your question appeared in Slido and we were unable to answer it during the lab.
If your question received feedback let us know if you need clarification.
You may want to ask your question again in a different lab e.g. visionOS tomorrow.
(We realize that this can be confusing when frameworks interoperate)
We have a lot to learn from each other so let’s get to Q&A and make the best of WWDC25! 😃
Looking forward to your questions posted in new threads.
My experience has been that ModelEntity(named:in:) can be used to load a USD file with a simple structure consisting of entities and model entities, and, critically, it will flatten the entity hierarchy down to a single ModelEntity, presumably reducing the number of draw calls.
However, can anyone verify that the following is true?
If ModelEntity(named:in:) is used to load a USD file from a RealityKit content bundle, it may fail when the USD file contains more complex data, such as shader graph material definitions, or perhaps for some other reason. I am not sure.
AND the error that ModelEntity(named:in:) throws in this case is
Cannot load RealityKitContent entity: Failed to find resource with name "<name>" in bundle
which would literally suggest that the file does not exist, instead of what I assume the error actually is, which is "the file exists but its entity hierarchy could not be flattened to a single ModelEntity" ?
Is that an accurate description of the known behavior of ModelEntity:named:in:)?
I understand that I could use Entity(named:in:) instead, without the flattening feature. My question is really more about the seemingly misleading error message.
Thank you for any clarification you can provide.
I am using Unreal Engine 5.6 on a MacBook Pro with an M3 chip and macOS 15.5. I’ve installed Xcode and accepted the license, but Unreal is not detecting the latest Metal Shader Standard (Metal v3.0). The maximum version Unreal sees is Metal v2.4, even though the hardware and OS should support Metal 3.0. I’ve also run sudo xcode-select -s /Applications/Xcode.app and accepted the license via Terminal. Is there anything in Xcode settings, SDK availability, or system permissions that could be preventing access to Metal 3.0 features?"
New to achievements. I added them in App Store Connect and want to test them.
Apple Documentation says this:
"Before you begin testing your GameKit configuration, you need to enable Debug Mode. In Xcode, choose Product > Scheme > Edit Scheme. From the Run configuration, select Options and toggle Enable Debug Mode.
To begin testing your achievement configuration, open the game Progress Manager. In Xcode, choose Debug > GameKit > Manage Game Progress."
Sounds easy enough, but there is no "GameKit" under Debug in Xcode 16.2.

I rewrote my graphics pipeline to use Load/Store better for clearing and don't care cases. All my tests pass, and in the Metal debugger, all the draw calls succeed.
But when I present drawables (before [commandBuffer commit]) I only get a pink screen. I've tried everything I can think of: making sure the pixel formats are the same for the back buffer as my render targets, etc. But it's still pink.
Could you point me in the right direction so I can fix this, or help describe why it's pink. That would be really helpful.
Thank you,
Brian Hapgood

Hi I have attempted to find a fix for my issue via documentation online and one phone support ( not code level support ) call to no end. I could continue to try various things but would like to see if someone else has encountered this issue and a fix for it.
Background: My Game app is live on App Store and has 1 classic leaderboard . I am now getting ready to submit an update to the app and it also entails adding a new recurring leaderboard. I added the leaderboard in App Store. I however have NOT uploaded my new build yet. I have also not added my leaderboards ( currently live and not live ) to any set.
When I try to submit scores using
GKLeaderboard.submitScore(_:context:player:leaderboardIDs:completionHandler:) to the new non-live leaderboard it works ( gives me no error )
When I try to load the scores from the new non-live leaderboard
GKLeaderboard.loadLeaderboards(IDs:completionHandler:)
loadEntries(for:timeScope:range:completionHandler:)
it fails. Error: "leaderboardID not found"
I could try ( and will )
uploading the new build to AppStore connect and associating the new leaderboard to it before testing again.
try associating each leaderboard to a set
Is there anything else that I should be aware of ?
Thanks in advance
Hey all — I’ve been building out my first set of Game Center Achievements for a game I’m working on, and I’ve run into something odd with the image quality.
The specs say to upload icons at 512x512 or 1024x1024@2x. I’ve been uploading 1024x1024 PNGs (without explicitly naming them “@2x” since there’s only one upload slot), assuming that Game Center would just handle the scaling automatically — kind of like how a lot of things are getting more streamlined across platforms lately.
But in testing, the icons are showing up a bit blurry, especially in the Game Center interface. It’s not horrible, but it’s definitely softer than I expected — more like low-res than Retina.
All my test devices (outside the Simulator) are running iOS 26, so I’m also wondering if this might be a beta-related display bug?
Has anyone else run into this? Curious if I’m missing a best practice here, or if I really do need to ensure I’m uploading it with the @2x suffix, or maybe something else entirely?
Thanks!
I'm in the process of converting my SceneKit game to RealityKit. In SceneKit I used to be able to mark nodes as selected by setting SCNMaterial.emission with a custom color. I can do the same with PhysicallyBasedMaterial.emissiveColor, but I'd like to keep my entitities unaffected by the scene lights by using UnlitMaterial. In SceneKit I can set a category mask to indicate what light should affect what node, but there doesn't seem to be such a thing in RealityKit. So at the moment it seems like I have to choose between being able to mark an entity as selected, or having entities unaffected by lighting, but not both.
Is there some effect or component I can use to mark entities as selected by applying some coloring regardless of the material used?
Hi,
What's the best way to handle drastic changes in scene charateristics with the new MTLFXTemporalDenoisedScaler?
Let's say a visible object of the scene radically changes its material properties. I can modify the albedo and roughness textures consequently. But I suspect the history will be corrupted. Blending visual information between the new frame and the previous ones might be a nonsense.
I guess the problem should be the same when objects appear or disappear instantly.
Is the upsacler manage these events for us (by lowering blending), or should we use the reactive or the denoise strength mask or something like that to handle them?
