I’m trying to integrate Screen Time usage data into my iOS app.
The goal is to fetch the total time a user spends on their device (daily or weekly), and store this locally for analysis.
So far, I’ve explored the DeviceActivity and FamilyControls frameworks:
1.DeviceActivityReport works but seems tied to extensions that show reports, not directly fetching raw values inside the main app.
2.I haven’t found a way to simply retrieve the total screen-on time (similar to what Settings → Screen Time shows).
My questions:
1.Is there any public API that allows retrieving the user’s total Screen Time (like the one shown in Settings)?
If yes, what’s the correct approach — should I use 2.DeviceActivityMonitorExtension, FamilyActivitySelection, or another framework?
3.If not, is it expected that this data is only available in the Settings app and not exposed to developers?
Any guidance or official confirmation would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance!
I have published the app on the App Store along with its corresponding app clip, my app clip is configured with some advanced experiences for each one of my clients, but whenever some users try to scan an NFC or QR Code they see the card rendering correctly with their configured banner image, but with the message "App Clip Unavailable".
The weird thing is that both iMessage and the website to which the associated domain is set and the apple-app-site-association is stored, renders the banner or card correctly, and when the users tap the banner or card they open the advanced app clip experience correctly without any issue.
I have attempted to troubleshoot the issue by checking the following:
if the app clip is below 15MB
if we are using a second level domain in my associated domain both for my app clip and app (excluding the www subdomain).
checking if the AASA is correctly stored inside .well-known directory
checking the configuration for the advanced experience
I opened a case: 102233443873, and added a bunch of videos and screenshot showcasing the issue, but I have not yet received a reply
Hello,
After being in the AppStore for more than a year with the app working perfectly, yesterday I started seeing that WeatherKit requests failed with
Failed to generate jwt token for: com.apple.weatherkit.authservice with error: Error Domain=WeatherDaemon.WDSJWTAuthenticatorServiceListener.Errors Code=2 "(null)"
Encountered an error when fetching weather data subset; location=<+41.40217108,+2.20023642> +/- 0.00m (speed -1.00 mps / course -1.00) @ 13/12/25, 12:20:35 Central European Standard Time, error=WeatherDaemon.WDSJWTAuthenticatorServiceListener.Errors 2 Error Domain=WeatherDaemon.WDSJWTAuthenticatorServiceListener.Errors Code=2 "(null)"
I checked on developer.apple.com and we still have everything turned on and
No changes were made from an already deployed app; and we pay 200$ a month for WeatherKit, this is unacceptable since it's not the first time WeatherKit randomly decides to stop working.
More fun facts: the widget works fine...
Problem Description:
After upgrading to iOS 26, I discovered that the ExtendedDistanceMeasurement feature in the Nearby Interaction framework is not working as expected. On the same device model, the issue did not occur on iOS 18, but it is present on iOS 26 (including the latest iOS 26.2), and it has started affecting the functionality of my app. I hope this issue can be resolved as soon as possible.
Problem Details:
On iOS 26 and later versions (including iOS 26.2), when using an iPhone and an Apple Watch both equipped with second-generation UWB chips, enabling isExtendedDistanceMeasurementEnabled initiates the distance measurement process successfully, but the distance information fails to update. The real-time distance between the devices does not display within the app.
Affected Devices and Versions:
iPhone Model: iPhone 15 Pro Max
iOS Version: iOS 26.2
Apple Watch Model: Apple Watch 10
watchOS Version: 26.2
Example Code:
The issue can be reproduced by adding the following code from the official sample code:
Nearby Interaction Framework Sample Code
Hello,
I have noticed that the ShieldConfiguration is only requested when opening a target app, and never when the application token is moved to a different shield while the target app remains in foreground.
This causes problems because many times the wrong ShieldConfiguration is displayed (recycled) instead of requesting a new ShieldConfiguration.
This bug has been around since the introduction of the Screen Time API in 2020 and is has not been addressed.
Bug reports:
FB14237883
FB17902392
Please fix asap!! Not acceptable to have bugs not being addressed for more than 5 years.
Most concerning: This is still reproducing on iOS 26 beta 7!!
Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi Apple Developer,
I’m working on a message-filtering application and reviewing Apple's documentation on message filtering. The documentation clearly states that MMS messages can be filtered. (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/identitylookup/sms-and-mms-message-filtering)
When we refer to MMS, it includes images, short videos, and other supported multimedia formats. However, the ILMessageFilterQueryRequest only provides the message body as a String, meaning we can access text and links but not images or other media files.
Could you please confirm whether Apple allows third-party applications to access multimedia content sent from unknown numbers?
Looking forward to your quick response.
Thanks,
Rijul Singhal
I’m currently developing a spam number blocking app using CallKit.
I’ve confirmed that up to iOS 26 beta 5, there is a bug where number blocking doesn’t work.
In my current tests, the ringtone doesn’t sound and the blocking works fine, but the call still appears in the missed calls list, which is bothersome.
If the bug is fixed in future versions (as it was in previous versions), is there a way to block the number so that it also does not appear in missed calls?
Hi,
I'm trying to make use of the Device Activity Labels where you supply an ApplicationToken. I can successfully get it to show the icon + title of the Application (twitter in my case) but I cannot get the styling to work.
// Works
.labelStyle(.iconOnly)
.labelStyle(.titleOnly)
.border(...)

// Does NOT work
.font(.largeTitle)
.foregroundColor(.blue)
I have checked the same style (or just modifiers) against a standard Label and they actually do work in the code below.
// This is an application token. Some style not applied.
Label(targetApp)
.labelStyle(MyStyle())
// Showing the same style using a simple label. All styles correctly applied.
Label("Twitter", systemImage: "video.square.fill")
.labelStyle(MyStyle())
Is changing the font + color of the title for this Label(_ applicationToken:) supported?

I'm building a voice-to-text keyboard extension that needs to open the main app briefly for audio recording (since keyboard extensions can't record audio), then return the user to their original app.
The flow I'm trying to achieve:
User is in WhatsApp (or Messages, Slack, etc.)
User taps "Voice" button in my keyboard
My main app opens via deep link (myapp://keyboard/dictation)
App starts recording
App automatically returns user to WhatsApp
I cannot find a way to detect which app the keyboard is running inside, or which app opened my main app via the deep link.
UIInputViewController.textDocumentProxy - No host app information available
UIApplication.OpenURLOptionsKey.sourceApplication in application(_:open:options:) - When opened from a keyboard extension, does this return the host app bundle ID or the keyboard extension bundle ID?
Private APIs (for research only, not production):
_hostBundleID on UIInputViewController - blocked/returns nil on iOS 18
KVC approaches - all blocked
Hardcoded app support - Works but requires maintaining a list of popular apps and showing multiple buttons instead of a single "Voice" button
My questions:
When a keyboard extension triggers a URL open (via SwiftUI Link or UIApplication.shared.open), what does sourceApplication contain? The host app or the keyboard extension?
Is there any supported way for a main app to know which app it was launched from, specifically when that launch originated from a keyboard extension?
How do apps like "Wispr Flow" achieve seamless return-to-app with a single voice button? They seem to auto-return to whatever app the user was in.
Environment:
iOS 18.0+
Xcode 16
SwiftUI keyboard using KeyboardKit
Any guidance on the recommended approach would be greatly appreciated. I understand there may be privacy reasons for limiting host app detection, but the UX of requiring users to manually swipe back (or tap app-specific buttons) is significantly worse than automatic return.
Hello,
Recently we got a question about the keyboard sensor data collection in our research project:
"For the typing statistics, was any typing included or only messaging and notes? E.g., typing in the browser, phone search, calendar, etc?"
While I believe it should be any typing included, I was not able to find a document explicitly stating that. Could you help to confirm it or guide me to any documentation explaining it?
Thanks!
Is there any resource which describes this type of errors?
I was integrating SKADNetwork view through Ad attribution and everything from the source app side is done and this error
appears after the target app is installed and opened.
Here is the full error
Error setting install attribution pingback registered for app: <APP ID>, error: Error Domain=ASDErrorDomain Code=1209 "SKAdNetwork: Could not set registered for pingback that does not exist." UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=SKAdNetwork: Could not set registered for pingback that does not exist.}, result: 0
I cannot find any resource on the internet which gives any info about this ASDErrors.
If anyone can help, you would be doing me a solid, Thanks in advance.
When updating an existing advanced app clip experience, the change doesn't actually apply. It shows the correct image in the UI, but when you use the app clip it shows the old image. Looking into it more, the status has "UPDATE_SUBMITTED". Seems related to this issue (https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/810544) and this issue (https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/810351).
For other permission prompts in the iOS ecosystem, we have the option to configure the text shown in the prompt via keys in the Info.plist. This does not appear to be the case with regards to the age range permission prompt. The text of the prompt implies the app includes a differentiated experience for child or teen content and that confirming age unlocks more features (making it seem optional for using the app).
Is there a plan for app developers to be able to update that permission prompt similarly to how we can configure others?
If so, is there any timeline we can expect that on?
I'm developing a VoIP app.
Currently, I'm using CallKit to control call acceptance, and end-of-call processing.
When a call comes in while using the phone, CallKit appears as a banner at the top of the screen.
When I click "Accept" on the banner, the app opens and the call is received. (For OEMs, clicking the "Accept" button in the banner will accept the call as is.)
The reason this feature is needed is, for example, when a call comes in as a banner call while using a navigation app, accepting the call causes the navigation app to go to the back and the VoIP app to come to the foreground, causing inconvenience to customers. This needs to be improved.
Please advise.
Hello,
I have an app on the App Store built around WeatherKit and it was working fine, up until this morning when I started seeing errors when using the app.
When debugging using Xcode I see the familiar error
Failed to generate jwt token for: com.apple.weatherkit.authservice with error: Error Domain=WeatherDaemon.WDSJWTAuthenticatorServiceListener.Errors Code=2 "(null)"
which, according to what I've read on the forums looks like an authentication error.
Attaching a network debugger to the Simulator, I saw this error:
This I have tried:
Verify that WeatherKit is enabled on both Capabilities and App Services tabs on the Dev Portal.
Toggle on/off this value and regenerate Provisioning Profiles
Uninstall/reinstall
Checking that I have API available calls.
Nothing. If I create a new Bundle ID and sign with that, it works correctly. But this is not an option since that will force all my customers to download everything from scratch.
I am getting emails from customers demanding money back and I can't figure out what has happened.
The only thing I can think of, is that I started developing an Apple Watch app to complement the iOS app, but that was last week and everything was working fine.
When a user enables an SMS filtering extension via iOS Settings → Messages → Text Message Filtering and selects an app, the following prompt appears:
"The developer of [App Name] will receive the text, attachments and sender information in text messages from senders not in your Contacts. Messages may include personal or sensitive information like bank verification codes."
This message cannot be modified by developers, and we're receiving complaints and negative reviews from users who are alarmed by it, despite our app not collecting any data.
iOS should allow developers to customize this message or reword this message to not make false claims about data collection.

I am trying to port my sandboxed macOS app completely over to iOS using a Catalyst target. In my macOS app, I use 'SwiftySandboxFileAccess' package to add a symlink to '~/Library/PDF Services' so that the 'share to my app' menuItem shows up in the macOS Print Panel (in the PDF menu). It is critical for the function of my app to have this work on macOS.
In the Catalyst target, I am having problems gaining access to '~/Library'. I have tried having the user select the folder, but the picker always returns 'canceled'. I have a test app that illustrates this.
The test app tries to coax the user into selecting the library folder and then it is supposed to bookmark the location, but I am unable to get this far.
As an aside, macOS should probably automatically add an entry to the Print Panel when the app includes PDF as a document type in XCode; it would save a lot of hassle and avoid having to go outside of the sandbox. However, I cannot wait for that. Hopefully someone can help.
Download Test App from iCloud
(If you have problems downloading the file, it might be because of some iCloud share setting that I am not aware of. Just tell me and I'll figure something out.)

We are a research team conducting a study collecting subject's SensorKit speech data, and we've encountered some questions we couldn't resolve ourselves or by looking up the online SensorKit documentation:
Microphone Activation: In general, how is the microphone being turned on to capture a speech session? And how was each session determined to be an independent session?
Negative Values: In the speech classification data, there are entries where some of the start and end values are negative (see screenshot below). How should we interpret and handle these values? Is it safe to filter them out?
Duplicated sessions: From the same screenshot you can see there are multiple session identifiers linked to the same subject with the same timestamp - what does this represent?
Another Negative Values: The same question for speech recognition data's average pause duration, what does the -1 mean and should we remove them as well?
(Note that these screenshot got rid of subject IDs for privacy purposes but each screenshot was from one subject.)
We greatly appreciate your time and help.
After reading the news below, we are currently working on updating our app in preparation for the enforcement of Texas SB 2420.

Based on the information in the announcement, we understand that parents will be able to revoke their consent for apps.
However, we are unsure how an app is supposed to obtain or verify the parent’s consent status in the first place.
We reviewed the Declared Age Range API and PermissionKit’s Significant Change API, but could not find any functionality related to this.
If anyone with expertise on this topic has insight, we would greatly appreciate your guidance.
Thank you in advance.
