I'm building a light-based(sunrise) alarm iOS app using SwiftUI , the idea is to wake users not with sound, but with a full-screen bright light UI (mimicking sunrise or a light alarm clock).
I'd like to replicate behavior similar to the native Clock app:
My goal:
When the scheduled time is reached, forcefully display a full-screen "light" screen, even if the device is:
locked
running another app
or the app is backgrounded
The problem:
So far, I can:
Show a full-screen AlarmView only if the app is opening
But I cannot:
Automatically wake the screen when app is closed
My confusion:
I've read that Critical Alerts allow bypassing Do Not Disturb and Silent Mode but that's only for sound right?
Can Critical Alerts also help with waking the screen or displaying visuals like full-screen UI automatically?
If not, is there any way to simulate this kind of alarm:
light-based screen effect ( sunrise alarm clock)
triggered automatically at a specific time
without needing the user to manually tap the notification?
Do I need to consider:
PushKit + VoIP?
CallKit (but it's meant for calls)?
Background tasks + silent push?
Or is it simply impossible without special entitlements?
Thanks in advance for any insights. This seems like a simple use case (light-based alarm), but I’m surprised how limited the options is.

We developed a "Default Translation App" following the guide: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/translationuiprovider/preparing-your-app-to-be-the-default-translation-app.
I have already configured everything that needs to be configured according to the document, but there is still this problem

I'm new to the Screen Time API and trying to block custom websites, but I can't get WebDomain tokens to work. When I create a WebDomain like WebDomain(domain: "reddit.com"), the token property is always nil. I have proper authorization and the app works fine for blocking apps, but website blocking just won't work.
I'm confused because I see apps like JOMO that let users type in any website domain and successfully block it using Screen Time API. They have the same 49 domain limit and only ask for Screen Time permission, so they must be using the same API I am. But somehow their WebDomain tokens work and mine don't.
I've tried creating the tokens right after getting authorization and during the FamilyActivityPicker session, but still get nil. Am I missing some setup step or API call that makes WebDomain tokens valid? Any help would be really appreciated since I'm stuck on this.
I'm sitting at my house and trying to sign my test device out of my apple ID so I can sign into a Sandbox user, but now I have an hour to kill because of this terribly broken "security" feature that thinks it's in an unfamiliar location, despite being at the only location it's ever known. Looks like I'll just be disabling this feature all together.
Especially as a device with Developer Mode enabled, which gets reset regularly, there should be additional options here. Come on!
Hello! I am a relatively new Apple developer and am almost done with my first app. I am implementing the Screen Time API to my app because the app is designed to help the user digitally detox and I am trying to make it so the user can select which apps they would like to monitor from a list of their apps on their phone so I am using the family activity picker but I just can't extract the data needed to track the apps. I am wondering how to do this. Thank you!

On a device with approx 800 contacts, the sheet presented when tapping ContactAccessButton with multiple matches briefly appears (.25 seconds) before disappearing, leaving the view below in a dimmed, slightly zoomed out, non-interactive state as if a sheet were being presented. Swiping down dismisses the invisible sheet returns the underlying view to a normal state.
Is there a way to avoid this? It appears possibly similar to https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/762077

I've been working a lot with the FamilyControls API and App Shield recently but have encountered a problem with no documentation. I used the FamilyActivitySelection to select the app store to shield(This is just for testing), and then printed out the application token:
1wfY¸êB ò S« öi #×(É?âðw ù/jQ ¿ J ïE¢? ·¿ º<Òd?ý r7¥Ãn N átJ¹ÿ85B_{VAF fC8. ,,¸¯3 T7F ±õü; ¹?v@¯ô Ä \-õ# Ò
I know the application token is a Codable object so I was wondering,
How do I create an application token using the Token<Application> initializer
init(from: any Decoder) throws
Creates a new instance by decoding from the given decoder.
Using the above data? Do I have to encode first in order to decode it?
For reference, the code I tried to use is:
newValue.applicationTokens.encode(to: JSONEncoder)
if let encoded = try? JSONEncoder().encode(newValue.applicationTokens) {
data = encoded
print(String(data: data, encoding: .utf8)!)
}
if let app = try? JSONDecoder().decode(Token<Application>.self, from: data) {
let token = Application(token: app)
print(token)
} else {
print("didn't work")
}
But it prints didn't work every time.
What should I do differently?

Call Screening has serious issues right now leading to missing calls from genuine callers because the system does not acknowledge them with missed call notifications or badges in a lot of cases. I'm posting this in the hope of catching an engineer who can bring this to the attention of the teams working on this.

I ran the following tests with iOS 26.1 beta 3, but the issues have been occurring on iOS 26.0 as well.
I used an iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac for this.
The iPhone has Call Screening enabled with the option „Ask Reason for Calling“
The iPhone has call forwarding enabled to all devices.
Test 1: Active Focus
Turn on a focus like Do not Disturb on all devices.
Lock all devices.
Make a phone call to the iPhone with an unknown number.
Behavior:
iPhone: displays Call Screening UI on the Lock Screen, but it will not light up the screen. You don’t know Call Screening is happening unless you activate the display just in that moment on devices without Always On Display.
Watch: does nothing.
Mac: does nothing.
iPad: displays Call Screening UI on the Lock Screen, but it will not light up the screen. You don’t know Call Screening is happening unless you activate the display just in that moment.
In this test the caller does not answer any of the Call Screening questions and just hangs up. The result is that only the Mac displays a missed call notification. iPhone, iPad, and Watch do not acknowledge the missed call (no phone app icon badge, no notification, no badge inside the Phone app itself), you can only see the call inside the Calls list when manually looking for it.
Test 2: No Focus
Turn off any focus like Do not Disturb on all devices.
Mac: displays Call Screening UI when unlocked.
iPad: displays Call Screening UI on the Lock Screen, but it will not light up the screen.
The only improvement here is that the Mac now shows the Call Screening UI.
Test 3: Caller answers Call Screening questions
An active focus does not matter.
Lock all devices.
Make a phone call to the iPhone with an unknown number.
Once the caller answered the Call Screening questions, the following happens:
All devices ring like expected
When the caller hangs up or I don’t answer:
Mac: Shows Missed Call notification without details
iPhone: Shows Missed Call notification with transcript of Call Screening (also badges phone app icon)
iPad: does nothing.
Watch: Shows the mirrored iPhone notification.
Things to note:
When turning off call forwarding on iPhone to other Apple devices like iPad and Mac, the phone app icon is always badged for missed calls when Call Screening was active, but no notification is displayed regardless.
If I run an app with a message filter extension, it's triggered for all the prepaid unknown numbers and its not triggered for all the unknown postpaid numbers. Any idea, how to trigger for postpaid unknown numbers?.
I would like the function in the calendar app to be able to assign a status to the set appointment, such as unconfirmed or pending.
Hi Apple Developers,
I am currently working on a message filtering application and facing issues specifically with filtering RCS (Rich Communication Services) messages. To debug this, I created a sample app that consistently categorizes all incoming messages as "junk." However, the filtering behaviour is inconsistent and not functioning as expected.
Here are the key issues observed during testing on iOS versions 18.2.1 and 18.3:
Inconsistent Filtering Behavior:
When a message is received from an unknown number, it sometimes gets moved to the Junk folder momentarily but is then immediately moved back to the main Messages inbox.
In some cases, the message does not get moved to the Junk folder at all, despite the app returning the verdict as "junk."
Duplicate Contact Tiles:
The Messages app displays two separate conversation tiles for the same mobile number, which is unexpected behavior.
I have attached both a sample app and a screen recording that clearly demonstrates the issue. The recording shows that the app categorizes messages as junk, yet they still end up in the main Messages inbox.
For reference, my carrier partner is T-Mobile. Please let me know if you need any additional information to investigate this issue further.
Looking forward to your insights and guidance.
Best regards,
Rijul Singhal
We appreciate your suggestion to use the Apple Developer Forums. However, we must respectfully request further escalation of this issue beyond the forums for several critical reasons:
Severity and Scope: This is not a general development discussion topic. We are facing a massive, reproducible performance issue on iOS 16 that renders devices unresponsive, requiring factory resets or DFU restores. This goes far beyond typical app bugs and points to a potential systemic issue in the OS's image handling.
Insufficiency of Forum Support: While the forums are a valuable resource for community advice, they cannot provide the official, in-depth technical diagnosis from Apple engineers that this situation demands. Our users' devices are being bricked by an app update that passed App Review, and we require clarity on the root cause to prevent further damage and restore user trust.
Code-Level Support Eligibility: As members of the Apple Developer Program, we believe our issue falls under the purview of Code-Level Support, as described on the Apple Developer website 9. Our problem involves "building or running software" and requires expertise in Apple's frameworks and hardware-level image rendering APIs. We request that our case be forwarded to that specialized team.
To reiterate the core problem: Our update introduced 1024x1026 JPEG assets into the Asset Catalog. On iOS 16, this causes severe overheating, freezing, and device unresponsiveness. Replacing them with PNGs completely resolves the issue. This suggests a potentially serious regression in iOS 16's JPEG decoding or memory management pipeline.
We prepared to provide a sample project that demonstrates the issue if required. Our case number is 102678393572.
We urgently need to understand why this happens at the OS level to ensure our app is safe and to contribute to the stability of the iOS platform. Please escalate this case to the appropriate technical team for a detailed investigation.
Sincerely,

Hello, currently working on messenger with audio/video calls feature. Have found strange behavior, on some devices after accepting call via Lock Screen video button appears to be disabled.
Tested on wwdc Speakerbox sample, same code
iPhone 15 Pro (iOS 17.4.1) - video button disabled
iPhone 14 (iOS 17.6.1) - video button active
Here is my, configuration with supportVideo activated
static let providerConfiguration: CXProviderConfiguration = {
let configuration = CXProviderConfiguration()
configuration.supportsVideo = true
configuration.maximumCallGroups = 1
configuration.maximumCallsPerCallGroup = 1
configuration.supportedHandleTypes = [.generic]
return configuration
}()
What can be the reason of this behavior?
Thanks
we’re looking to get some clarification around how the hourly forecasts should be interpreted to ensure we’re using your data in the correct manner. If you could provide the answers to the following questions would be extremely helpful:
1. What do the data points (e.g temperature) in the hourly forecast represent for a future hour? Do they represent the expected average over that future hour or do they represent the forecast for the point in time at the top of the hour?
2. What do those same data points represent in the hourly forecast for an hour which has already begun? e.g. it’s 8:30 and we pull the hourly forecast and the 8:00 hour is still returned. Which of the following would be the correct interpretation for the values returned for the 8:00 hour:
The values represent the forecast for the point in time at the top of the 8:00 hour (if this is the case we would expect it to stop updating)
The values represent the current forecast i.e. what the weather is right now
The values represent the average over the remaining portion of the 8:00 hour
The values represent the average over the full 8:00 hour including both the portion which has already elapsed and the portion which is still to come
3. What does the data represent after the hour (i.e. looking at historical hours)? Is it:
The last forecast made within the hour? If so, is that point-in-time or average for the hour (as explained above)?
The actual weather for that hour (using some non-forecast measure of real weather)? If so, again is that point-in-time at top of hour / point-in-time at end of hour / average over the hour?
We've observed an issue where the video button on the CallKit UI is disabled during Video VoIP calls.
This issue appears to be specific to notch devices running SDK 26 and iOS 26 beta 7, specifically on iPhone 11. We have not seen this behavior on devices with Dynamic Island or on older iOS versions.
For further details, please refer to the attached video and sysdiagnose file. : FB19827793
Our experimentation suggests this issue is exclusively present on non-Dynamic Island devices with iOS 26 beta.
Hi,
I'm using ScreenCaptureKit on macOS 14+ to record a single window. I've noticed that the Presenter Overlay only appears when capturing the entire screen, but it does not appear when recording a specific window or a region.
Is there a way to enable the Presenter Overlay while recording a single window or a defined region, similar to how it works with full-screen capture?
Any guidance or clarification would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
I have been working to implement Apple's Live Caller ID feature, which requires setting up a relay server. Following Apple's guidelines, I submitted a request through the provided link to utilize Apple's relay server. However, it's been three weeks, and I have yet to receive a response. I contacted Apple Support, but they indicated that this is a technical matter beyond their scope.
Has anyone successfully received confirmation from Apple regarding the use of their relay server for Live Caller ID? If so, could you share your experience or any advice on how to proceed?

Thank you.
